Introduction
In this 8-week Chinese project, you are not going to play computer games in class, but you are going to create an avatar for a computer game. The name of the game is called Descendants of the Dragons. You are going to listen to a presentation on Chinese dragons and to understand the background information. Your avatar could be of any ethnic background, or it could be Chinese---the descendant of the dragon. As you develop your knowledge of the Chinese language and culture, you construct details for your avatar: Chinese name, gender, age, address, telephone number, ethnicity, family, friends, education, daily routine, favorite food and so on. In class, sometimes, you are going to interact with each other by role-playing the character that you have created: making friends, planning activities, and eating out. During these 8 weeks, hopefully you are going to
train yourself to gain special skills such as singing, dancing, Tai Chi, calligraphy, Chinese painting, and crafts. These skills will add power to
your avatar (you get more points for that). What kind of skills should you work on? Well, BE CREATIVE!
Now, let’s begin. Start by collecting information, and taking an active
part in all activities to gain skills. After the due date, you are going to present your avatar to your classmates by using PowerPoint, poster, or picture books. You are also going to write several paragraphs to describe your avatar in Chinese. I encouage you to use more Chinese characters, but pinyin is acceptable.
