1 when, while, as的用法区别
He fell asleep when [while, as] he was reading.
期间”时,其谓语通常只能是那些含有动作(action)和发展(development) 意味的动词,一般不能是那些不用于进行时态的动词(如 be, seem, love, want, agree, see, know, have 等),所以下面一句中的 while 不能换为 as:
A:I’m going to the post office.
B:While you’re there, can you get me some stamps?
Don’t talk while you’re eating.
I kept silent while he was writing.
She sang as she went along.
It was raining hard when [as] we arrived.
I thought of it just when [as] you opened your mouth.
Things are getting better and better as time goes on.
As it grew darker, it became colder.
It’s cold when it snows.
He smiles when you praise him.
I will go home when he comes back.
We were about to start when it began to rain.
He likes coffee, while she likes tea.
As [When] a boy, he lived in Japan.
When [While] reading, he fell asleep.
When [While] in trouble, ask her for help.
1 or not放在whether之后时,只能用whether不用if。
I don’t know whether or not he will come.
I don’t know whether/if he will come or not.
2 在强调任意选择时,用whether…or,此时不用if替换whether。
He asked me whether I wanted to go there by train or by bus.
Whether he drives or takes the train, he will be here on time.
Whether he will come I am not sure.
It depends on whether it will be fine.
We discussed whether we should close the shop.
He asked me whether I’d move to New York if I got the job.
Please let me know if you need help. Please let me know if you need help.
I don’t know if it won't rain tomorrow..
⑴Whether it is true remains a question.(主语从句)那是不是真的还是个问题。
⑵The question is whether it is true.(表语从句)问题是是不是真的。
⑶We have a doubt whether it is true.(同位语从句) 我们怀疑那是不是真的。
It is unclear whether/if he likes the present.
I don’t know whether to go there at once.
3 not … any more和not … any longer的区别
先说not … any more和not … any longer.
严格地说,not … any more与瞬间动词连用,而not … any longer与持续性动词连用。(结合词义也不难理解:much是指“次数多”,not … any more是指“不再一次次地发生”;long是指“时间长”,not … any longer是指“不再持续”。)如:
He didn’t live here any longer. We couldn’t see him any more.
再看no more和no longer.
no more常用于正式语体,而not … any more则比较口语化。同理,no longer也比not … any longer正式。
no more位于句尾,而no longer则位于动词之前。如:
He no longer lived here. We could see him no more.
最后,也许有必要补充一句:以上阐述都是基于not … any more或no more解释“不再”,像下列句子中not … any more (或no more) 显然是不能改为not … any longer (或no longer) 的:
I don’t want any more. (I want no more.)
A whale is no more a fish than a horse is.(鲸之非鱼正如马之非鱼。
Besides his wife, his daughter also went to see him.
You can park anywhere except [but] here.
”,与but, except 同义:
No one passed the exam besides [except] Jim.
2. 关于 but 与 except
All are here but one.
All are here except one.
① no, no one, nobody, nothing, nowhere 等
② any, anyone, anybody, anything, anywhere 等
③ every, everyone, everybody, everything, everywhere 等
④ all, none 等
⑤ who, what, where 等
Everyone knows it but you.
I haven’t told anybody but you.
No one but he [him] showed much interest in it.
The window is never opened except in summer.
The window is never opened but in summer.
3. 关于 except 与 except for
All compositions are well written except yours.
His composition is good except for a few spelling mistakes.
Except for me, everyone passed the exam.
