CALCULATION OF IDEAL BODY WEIGHT (IBW) AND …:理想体重(IBW)和计算…
Ideal Body Weight (IBW) and Adjustments for Adults
Ideal body weight (IBW)
Men: IBW=106 pounds (lb) for first 5′ + 6 lb for each inch over 5′
Women: IBW=100 lb for first 5′ + 5 lb for each inch over 5′
For the individual under 5′, subtract 2 lb for each inch under 5′
Frame size adjustment
Add or subtract 10% IBW:
Large frame: IBW+(IBW,0.10)
Small frame: IBW,(IBW,0.10)
Obesity adjustment
Adjusted ideal body weight (AIBW) is calculated as follows: Men: AIBW=[(actual weight–IBW),0.38]+IBW
Women: AIBW=[(actual weight–IBW),0.32]+IBW
Note: Considerable controversy exists in the nutrition literature about using AIBW for
calculations. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Evidence Analysis ?Library, if it is not possible to measure resting metabolic rate (RMR), then the Mifflin-
St Jeor equation using actual weight is the most accurate for estimating RMR for overweight and obese individuals.
Disability adjustment
Paraplegia: Subtract 5%-10% from IBW
Quadriplegia: Subtract 10%-15% from IBW
Amputee adjustment
Use the percentage of total body weight contributed by individual body parts: Entire leg (and foot): 18.5%
Above the knee: 13.0%
Below the knee: 6.0%
Foot: 1.8%
Entire arm (and hand): 6.5%
Forearm (and hand): 3.0%
Hand: 1.0%
