Kexue Boshi Wenku bianzuan weiyuanhui中國社會科學博士文庫編纂委員會) in
1987.
PUBLICATIONS
Since 1974 I have published nine books and more than sixty articles on history in
China (both in the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan) and in USA, UK, Japan and
South Korea. Most of the works deal with the mid- and late imperial history of China,
focusing on the Yangzi Delta and covering major fields of Chinese

educational and legal history. The others deal with theories and methodology in the
studies of history. I have also been working in comparative studies between China
and West Europe. In addition, I have translated and published in China some works
on Chinese history produced by Western and Japanese scholars.
