It is found that bees have altruistic behaviour. Professor Wilson believes that it is a kind of self-sacrifice. Professor Smith, on the other hand, reports his study of chimpanzees. He finds that the apparent altruism is sometimes actually part of a mutual-aid system. The panel chair raises the issue of kin selection. Professor Wilson uses his study of lions to demonstrate the chairman’s point. He points out that even human societies may not be immune to the programming of kin selection.
Li Yan and Wing Ling , the two guest audience, ask some questions. Wing Ling wants to know . Professor Wilson points out that human parents sacrifice themselves to their offspring, whereas the bee workers sacrifice themselves to the bee community. Li Yan continues the contrast by observing the sacrifice of human parents is similar to the altruism shown by chimpanzees. Professor Smith comments on it saying it is of better quality.
