A summary of "Love Story" On the first page, the sentence "Funny, touching and infused with wonder, as all love stories should be" gives me a general idea of the book. After reading the chapters, we believe the love story between Oliver and Jenny must be an extraordinary one. Love Story was Told as a flashback, this is an uncomplicated love story between two star-crossed lovers-students, Harvard pre-law hockey player Oliver Barrett IV and Radcliffe music student Jenny Cavalleri. Oliver narrates the opening line of the look, looking back: “What can you say about a twenty-five-year-old girl who died? That she was beautiful and brilliant? That she loved Mozart and Bach, the Beatles, and me?” Their love triumphs over different economic-class backgrounds (Oliver is a "preppie millionaire," and Jenny is a smart-mouthed "social zero" from a blue-collar Italian/American family). Their main obstacle to romance is that his rich, powerful and snobbish father, Oliver Barrett III (Ray Milland) objects and threatens to cut off funding: "Oliver, if you marry her now, I'll not give you the time of day." But younger, bull-headed Oliver ultimately responds: "Father, you don't know the time of day." The two young lovers marry and first move into a small apartment in Cambridge before Oliver is hired by a New York law firm and they move to the city. They hadn't got a fantastic wedding ceremony for lack of support from their parents. But it was definitely affecting when Oliver read his poem, especially the last sentence "Shall we stick by each other as long as we live?". After meeting many obstacles and making sacrifices, including her turning down a trip to Paris to marry him, she is diagnosed as terminally ill when she is tested for pregnancy and fertility. In a lengthy deathbed conversation with Oliver at the Mount Sinai Hospital in a tear-inducing closing, she tells him: "It doesn't hurt, Ollie, really it doesn't. It's like falling off a cliff in slow-motion, you know. Only after a while, you wish you'd hit the ground already, you know." He states he fell off a cliff when he met her. Then, she tries to bring up his spirits. He does not steal Paris, music and all that stuff from her. There’s no one to blame. It’s nobody’s fault. There is no doubt that Jenny is the leading lady in this book. Selfless she is, she is willing to sacrifice her dream for her lover; tenacious she is, she doesn’t care about what Oliver’s father thought about her and tries her best to be with Oliver to spend the hardest time; brave she is, she doesn’t fear death and doesn’t want Oliver to be sorry for her death. What she wants is that Oliver will be willing to forgive his father .That is what She made that help Oliver become a real man. She is so perfect that everybody likes her. I think Oliver’s father also likes her but he has to consider her family. As for Oliver, he is an enthusiastic young man. Maybe you think he is puerile when he argues with his father and refuses to accept his father’s supporting. He calles his fathe r as a “son of a bitch”. Maybe you think he is not childishness; he just wantes to prove he can achieve his own goal, instead of depending on his strong family. Maybe you think he improves day and day and when he marries Jenny, he becomes a conscientious m an and wantes to give Jenny happiness.Doubtlessly, Jenny’s death makes him become more firm. He forgives his father because he knows Jenny’s dream and he is also afraid of death; he begins to know how terrible it was when you faced your relative’s passing away. He began to know “love means never having to say you are sorry.” There is no doubt that Jenny is the leading lady in this book. He began to know “love means never having to say you are sorry.” This is a book as insipid as the light water, just like its title—Love Story,no passion, no freshness. Some people are even tired of the theme. However, it use its special charm and make thousands of people feel comfortable. As we know, the book was written in 1970, so its plots may be out of date. But it demonstrates a remarkable and innovative idea of pursuing true love regardless of different social status. Although a marriage without money, houses, cars and even parents' blessings seems to be awful, Oliver and Jenny are brave enough to show their independent spirits by choosing the life they want. As for us, we can learn their free lifestyle and never hesitate to seek for our own goal. We should bear in mind that it is wrong to live for others' views instead of our real feelings. In my opinion, fathers want their kids to be better, so they try to use their own method to show their love and direct kids in the right way they think. Sometimes kids don’t understand and try to live in their own ways. Here we have to say that maybe fathers’ opinions are not always right, just as Oliver’s father’s hierarchy and the young want to break it down. So, if your are a father, give your child enough freedom to find and love, if you are the kid, love your father and try your best to understand them and communicate with them as often as you can, Don’t repent until they left you.
