Test Description Summary
TEST DURATION DETAILS
60 minutes Reading Part 1
Contains 2 academic reading passages followed by multiple
choice questions.
Part 2
A Cloze passage (fill in the blanks with grammar or
vocabulary items) is followed by multiple choice questions
pertaining to the passage.
50 minutes Students are presented with a statement or question related to a Writing
wide range of academic topics. They are given 5 minutes to
brainstorm ideas related to it. Students are given 45 minutes
to produce a well-organized piece of writing in response to the
statement/question on the test paper.
15-20 minutes Students are tested in small groups Speaking
Part 1
Each student is asked one or more questions for spontaneous
response. 3-5 min. (Maximum: 1 minute per student)
Part 2
Group discussion based on challenging situation presented to
students. 10-15 min.

Detailed Description of Green Path English Proficiency Testing
I Reading Test 60 minutes
The reading test is composed of three reading passages that cover a range of general academic areas. Passage 1 and Passage 2 are accompanied by multiple-choice comprehension questions where the student must select the most suitable of four choices provided, based on the context in the reading passage. The questions focus on understanding the main idea of a passage, key supporting details, the meaning of challenging vocabulary as it is used in the context and making inferences. Passage 3 is a multiple choice cloze activity in which individual words have been removed from the passage and replaced with blank spaces. The student must select the most appropriate word to fill the blank space from four choices provided, based on how well the word fits the grammatical context and overall meaning of the passage.
II Writing 50 minutes
Students are presented with a statement or question related to a wide range of academic topics. They are given 5 minutes to brainstorm ideas related to it. Students are given 45 minutes to produce a well-organized piece of writing in response to the statement/question on the test paper. Points will be given according to:

, Organization and Paragraph Structure
, Vocabulary: accurate use of vocabulary suitable for academic writing
, Grammar: accurate use of a variety of grammatical structures suitable for academic writing.

Note that points are awarded for successful use of complex grammar and academic vocabulary.
III Speaking Test 20 minutes
Students are divided into small groups and each presented with one or more individual questions to
answer (Maximum 1 minute each). Then, the group is presented with a challenging situation to discuss as a group (10-15 minutes). During discussion, students should ask others their opinions and reasons, and give their own. They should negotiate agreement on the problem: they may agree / disagree with each other, try to persuade each other, or find a compromise solution. They must take care to understand each other’s thinking, asking for clarification and giving clarification when needed. Points are given for: Content & Organization, Fluency, Vocabulary and Grammar, Pronunciation, Listening and Clarification Skills, Discussion Skills. (NOTE: In an academic discussion, all students participate
actively: points are taken off for not participating and for dominating the discussion).
