火山爆发对环境的影响
Effects of Hurricanes on the Environment
by Jennifer
Hi! I'm going to introduce you to some effects of hurricanes on the environment. For example, I will tell you some things about how horrible flooding is and what happens. I will tell you about erosion, what makes it and what it does. I will tell you about the bayou and the yucky bacteria in it. I will tell you some interesting things about how hurricanes destroy many, many things. Finally, I’ll tell you about the loss of power and telephones. I really hope that you’ll read on because I know
you will enjoy and learn interesting things about hurricanes.
One effect of hurricanes on the environment is they cause erosion. When the hurricane comes it causes the water to rise and also to make huge waves. The waves and high water level, also known as the storm surge, cause erosion. The erosion may destroy buildings by pulling the sand from underneath the building. Sea oats hold the sand dunes together with their roots. The hurricane takes the roots out of the ground and then the sand doesn't hold. Then, the sand dune collapses.
Another effect of hurricanes on the environment is on the bayous. High levels of bacteria get in the bayou and make the water unsafe to swim in. It’s bad for the fish and other animals in the bayou. Some fish even die from hurricanes because of the bacteria levels. It makes it hard for the fish and other animals to breathe. When people go fishing sometimes they get bad fish and when they eat them they can get very sick.
The loss of power and phone service is another annoying and sometimes dangerous effect of hurricanes. Many times the high winds knock down power lines. Hurricanes also make lightning, of course, and sometimes tornadoes. The tornadoes and lightning will sometimes hit power and telephone lines. When that happens, the telephones will go dead and the power goes out. That’s a big problem, because if someone gets hurt, you can’t call for emergency help. You just have to pray that they will be all right.
Yet another effect of hurricanes on the environment is they destroy many, many things. When a hurricane comes it brings very strong winds and has tons of power. It will get above a house or another building and boom, it destroys it, just like that! It is horrible. The people inside are either dead, injured, or are homeless and stuck searching all over for shelter.
Flooding is a major effect of hurricanes on the environment because when there is a hurricane, it carries so much moisture that the clouds of the hurricane get full very fast and which causes horrible downpours. The downpours are so powerful they can ruin dozens of houses and other buildings at one time Those downpours turn into floods. Sometimes they can flood many towns! Now that’s scary! Floods can cause
mud-slides and other life threatening situations. They leave many people injured and
homeless.
