The difference between Chinese Cuisine and Western Cuisine
As a famous Chinese saying goes, food is the first necessity of man. No human could ever live without concerning his or her everyday meal. Besides the continuing improvement of Chinese dishes, there are more and more people paying attention to other kinds of cuisine, such as the French feast, fast food in the U.S.A, etc. Since people regard food as their prime want, what’s the difference between Chinese Cuisine and Western Cuisine?
China, a country possesses vast territory and abundant resources, mainly has four kinds of cuisines. They are named after the province in which they were produced. They are : Chuan, Yue, Su and Lu, of which they are the symbol of Sichuan, Guanzhou, Suzhou, Shandong province, respectively. Taking my favorite dish in Chuan Cuisine as an example, spicy fish (Shui Zhu Huo Yu), it consists of one big fish, cucumber, bean sprout and other ingredients such as ginger and hot pepper. After being boiled through hot oil, the fish became tender and soft. Once you taste it, you will be amazed by the mouth-watering dish. Besides the good taste, Chuan Cuisine also calls for pretty look. Blended with red hot pepper and fresh green vegetable, all the dishes are so colorful. Moreover, there are 38 kinds of cooking style in Chuan Cuisine, such as fry, roust, pickle, To stir-fry with hot oil( Ganbian) and so on.
Meanwhile, the Western Cuisine might seems a bit monotonous, for their styles of cooking are similar to each other. However, the French feast stands out from other countries. Fresh ingredient, a wide variety of food choices, complicated process of dinner all express the uniqueness of French Cuisine. For example, there is one famous French dish which is called “the French snail”. The
snail in this dish is different from ordinary ones, they are bigger and with abundant meat which is really delicious. The way of cooking it is far more different with Chinese cooking style as well. Usually, chef would use cheese, onions and vanilla instead of vinegar or pepper to add flaver. What’s more, most cooks prefer to add wine in their cuisine so that to make the dish tasty.
Finally, there is one big difference between Chinese Cuisine and the Western ones, that is , Chinese dishes are served in big bowls whereas Western dishes are served separately. In my view, it is the uniqueness of Chinese culture that influents this way of serving meals. Chinese people like to get together as a group while Westerners prefer individuality.
To sum up, different culture produces different cuisine and even though those cuisines differ a lot, they all represent the living style of different kinds of people, that’s what make our whole world
enjoyful.
