The food we eat today is much healthier than in the past. In the past, the shortage of vegetables and grain was a common social problem, especially when there were fluctuations in climate. People might be pretty delightful with plenty of food, regardless the influence food had on their health. But now, people can get access to a variety of healthier food due to the advancement of transportation and the research in nutrients of food. As a consequence, I hold the point of view that nowadays, the food we eat significantly healthier than that in the past. First and foremost, with the invention of modern transportation, such as airplanes and trains, people can reach everywhere in the world with ease, so does food. Additionally, thanks to the development of preservation technology, the shelf life of food has been extended strikingly, which ensures that food won’t go bad when being transported. Therefore, people are able to enjoy enormous kinds of healthy food which could only be eaten by people living in producing area in the past. For instance, even though I am living Tianjin, I can taste fruits from all over the world, such as pineapples from Thailand, bananas planted in Hainan Province and citrus transported from Jiangxi Province. With the wider range of healthy food, there is no doubt that people’s diet level is enhanced dramatically compare to the past. Furthermore, on account of the growing aware of the importance of healthy diet, cooking and eating has turned from a fundamental part in daily life into a professional research area, which guides people how to eat healthy food in the healthiest way. A quick glance at the multitude of TV programs concerning eating and cooking reveals this change clearly. In those programs, experts in nutrients show people the rules of how to maximize the nutrients in food and how to choose the most suitable food for individuals. Gradually, we not only satisfied with the taste of food, but also deem eating as an approach to stay healthy. When getting a sore throat, we start to eat pears to mitigate the problem; during season alternate, we are inclined to digest the nutrients in vegetables rather than eating much meat. Obviously, today we make full use of food to improve our healthy standard instead of eating food to stay full. Meanwhile, we cannot deny the fact that some merchants use unqualified materials to make food driven by interest, which are extremely harmful to people’s health. For example, some merchants use illegal cooking oil to fry food, and some sell food that has passed its shield life. However, our government spares no effort to make sure the purity and the safety of food, improve the quality of food as well. Hence, there is reason to believe that our health will not be threatened by the inferior food in the near future. All in all, even though the advancement of technology helps money-oriented peddlers to make unqualified food, were there no development in modern technology and nutritional science, we cannot get access to a copious number of healthy food. Thus, we are enjoying healthier food than in the past.
