PRO/E模具全3D出图操作 EMX Demo Pick and Script Expert Mold Base Demo For those who are do this demo are encourage to learn Basic EMX from the Training Tutorial for better understanding of EMX before conducting a real demo Please Contact James Ng if you have any question regarding EMX. Email Address : zng@ptc.com Office Telephone : 604-2291811 Mobile Phone : 6012-4844920 PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Expert Mold Base Library Extension Demo Introduction of Basic concept of Pro/Engineer (Pro/Mold Design, EMX- Expert Mold Base Extension) which is Parametric Feature Base and Fully Associative among all the PTC family products (AE who does this demo are free to customize their own mapkey or icon) MOST OF THE COMMAND HAS BEEN CUSTOMIZED AND TO AVOID EXTRA MOUSE PICKING, PLEASE SELECT THE ICON ON THE SIDE MENU Starts the demo Model - File open / emx_design.prt / Spin around to show the complexity of this model This is the speaker cover which I am going to use for my demo today. My demo will include Model manipulation, Mold design (parting creation, Work piece etc) and finally I will also show you how integrate Pro/Engineer 3D model into Expert Mold Base Library…. As you can see, this audio part ( Speaker cover ) has got more then 100 feature such as free form surfaces, rounds , ribs , undercut features , boss as well as draft…. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Cross Section - X-section / show the cross section - View / Display settings / Visibilities ( Change the view type to show the dynamic cross section ) This is how easy we create cross sections. On top of this, Pro/Engineer also allow you to creates dynamic cross section which cut across into your 3D model directly, with this dynamic cross section functionality, the mold designer detect the undercut feature very easily and modify the design model at this stage. Model Thickness Checking - Analysis / Model Analysis / Thickness / select a Datum Plane ( which shows a cross section ) / Slice / Select a point for Start point and End Point ( as shown below ) / Slice offset 10 or 15 Start point End point Made sure the arrow flip towords this direction It is very important to check the overall thickness of a design model, because this information allows mold designer to ensure the Plastic Material flows evenly through out this model, which would avoid material over pack at certain areas in this model during the material injection process…. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Draft Check Analysis / Surface Analysis / Draft Check / Part / Select a Plane ( Can be Top Datum Plane ) / Draft 3.00 / Compute Before I start my mold design, it is very important for my interest to find out the material flow result such as Confidence of Material Fill, Temperature and Pressure Drop, Filling time, Weld line, Air trap and so on. With all the design information in the earlier stage, I am able to design my runner system and Gate point location accurately and effectively. Plastic Material Flow Analysis - Application / Plastic Advisor / Done / Select any point on the model to create a Gate point / Drag and Drop this gate point at any where you like (to show the flexibility of Plastic Advisor) / File open / Result_1.mpa / show the material flow / Confidence of material fill / Temperature drop etc / File open to show another Result_2.mpa and Result_3.mpa ( With 3 different type of Date point System ,the mold designer would able to „guess? the molding result with high degree of accuracy Gate point PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Mold Design - File / New / Manufacturing / Mold Cavity / Give it a name “ emx_mold” or new name After I am satisfy with the model information (Thickness, Draft check, Cross section checking as well as Material flow analysis, now I would like to start off with my model design work. Firstly, I need to create a Manufacturing file call **.mfg, This is where I start my mold design work… Reference Model Assemble Mold model / Assemble / Reference model / emx_design.prt / Coordinate System and Coordinate System First of all, A reference model is required to bring into Mold design Working environment. Let me assemble emx_design.prt by Coordiante system… Here I have got an option either to merge this reference model or keep the original one. For this demo ,I would like to keep the original copy. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Cavity Design ( number of cavity ) Mold model / Locate RefPrt / Redefine / Rectangular / With the help of Cavity analysis study, I am able to define the orientation of the cavity for my mold design. This is very important as the orientation would have a big impact to my runner system design and it effect my molding result directly. For demo purpose , I would like to stay as single cavity mold design. Change some of the setting here to show the flexibility of the Pro/Engineer Work Piece Creation Mold model / Create / Work piece / Automatic / select MOLD_DEF_CSYS PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Play around with this setting to show different Shpae of work piece shape Now, I need to create a work insert for my mold. Most of the time I had problem to detect the actual size of my design model and I need to spend longer time to create my work insert., However with the help of Pro/Engineer , I can create the work piece in 10 second because Pro/Engineer helps in detecting the actual size of my design model and create the work piece for me automatically. Besides that I can also change the work piece size and shape by changing the value in this small window here Change all the figure to 15mm By doing this, I can change any components display type at anytime. For example, I would like to change my Work piece To wire frame mode which allow me to view my Mold reference clearly and comfortably Model Display setting View / Model Setup / Component Display / Create / Wireframe / Select the Work piece / Done PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Shrinkage Factor Shrinkage / By Scale / Select the Coordinate System / 0.005 for X,Y,Z axis / Shrink info ( to show Shrink info) As you know, different Plastic Material has different type of Shrinkage Factor…. For this demo, I would like to add 5% as Shrinkage factor to my reference model. Let me show the information window…. Silhouette Curve Feature / Cavity Assembly / Silhouette / Preview Now ,I would like to start define my parting surface, but before I proceed to that, I would like to show you a faster way to define the parting surface, which I will create a curve along all the edges of this 3D model, then I use this curve to create my parting surface… Spin this model a bit to highlight to curve has been created in 2 seconds PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Parting Surface Creation Select from the Parting Surface Icon from the side menu OR Parting Surface / Create / “give it a name” / Skirt After select from the icon on the side menu, give the parting surface a name then select the Silhouette Curve to form the parting surface. After selected the curve from the model, let?s see how does the parting surface looks like? ( Press Preview button to view it ) Parting Surface Creation – Redefine the Parting surface vector correctly From the Skirt Surface Window / select on the Extension option to redefine the Surface vector direction Flat Surface Select these arrows by many and select the flat face for direction. Repeat for the The reason I need to redefine the direction of all these other side. vector is to prevent design changes to this model, by taking this safety measurement step, all the parting surface would be able to adapt to all kind of design modification in the future… PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Finally, we should be able to see all the arrow are pointing towards same direction… Let?s look at the parting surface now, as you can see, all the holes and cuts are being filled automatically by the parting surface… Parting surface / Shade / Select this parting surface Let me shade the parting surface now…Look at the all the holes being filled up automatically… PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Volume Creation Mold Volume / Create / Give a „Name? / Sketch / Extrude / One side / Select a flat face to start a Sketch As I mention earlier on that I will need to create a slider for this undercut area, this is how I do it. First I create a protrusion in which I copy the outline of the undercut feature then extrude all the way to the inner surface of the 3D model…. Flat Surface to start Sketch Now you see the shape of this slider, However I need to trim the slider according to my 3D model, this is how I do it… This area of slider has been trimmed… PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Splitting Process Select the icon from the side menu OR Mold Volume / Split / Select the Slider Volume / Done / give a “name” Example V1 to the Work insert and a name “ Slider” for Slider volume After I have defined the Slider Volume, now I need to extract it from the work piece… First of all, Select the slider volume and give the work piece a name as “V1” when system Prompt you for a name…After that give another name for the slider volume example „ SLIDER?… PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Splitting Process- Split Core and Cavity from V1 Volume Select the icon from the side menu OR Mold Volume / Split Here I am going to extract the Core insert and Cavity insert from the previous Volume – V1 Now, I will select v1 for splitting into core and cavity by selecting the main parting surface… Then just have to wait for input a name for core and cavity respectively… PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Extract the Slider, Core, Cavity Volume into Solid Protrusion Mold Comp / Extract / Select Slider, Core, Cavity and OK These are all the Volume we created minutes ago ,the last thing I need to do now is to convert all the volume into solid feature. Nothing could be easier then this… ‘House Keeping’ Select on this icon and then blank the work piece / Volume / Parting etc At this moment of time, I have completed 95% of my mold design work, Here I am going to clean up my data a little bit by blanking some of the volume as well as Parting surface and Work piece. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Mold Opening Mold opening / Define Step / Define Move / Select on the Cavity insert / Select Vertical Edge for direction / Enter value 25.0 / Repeat same step for Core and SliderWhat I need to do now is to open up the mold by defining some distance between core, cavity, slider insert from each other…. As you can see, I have just spent around 20 minutes In which I have done draft checking, Plastic Flow analysis, Parting surface creation, Mold insert splitting as well as turning all the insert into solid model. Finally I have done the mold opening which simulates the movement between the mold inserts. Next, I will show you how to integrate all these mold inserts into Expert Mold Base Library… PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Expert Mold Base Extension (EMX) Start a new project Select the icon on the left side menu OR Expert Moldbase option 3.0 / Project / Create New You may either start you new project by selecting the icon on you left hand side or select from the pull down menu on the Top Bar This is how we start our new project with EMX. First you just need to give it a new project name and then enter another name for you part-prefix which means that all the mold components generated by EMX with starts with Prefix name. This is very important as it help you to categories all these components respectively. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Assemble the Mold assembly (Mold Inserts) Component / Assemble / Select on emx_mold.asm / Coordinate System by Coordinate System / (Turn on Datum Plane, Datum Points) as you can see now, EMX help me setup up all the mold base basic layout and what I need to do now is to assemble the mold components which I created just now. Here is my Mold Components assembly and I will assemble it by Coordinate system. Components Preparation or Components Categories At his moment of time, I will need to do a little Project preparation, which also means I will need to inform EMX that reference part belong to REF_MODEL group etc by checking the option provided by EMX. This will help me when I try to simulate the mold opening sequences. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Mold Base Creation By selecting on the Mold Base Icon, EMX shows Mold Base Creation window in which I can either customize or build my own Mold Base by select on the option provided by EMX. As for most of Mold Maker in this area are using Futaba Series, therefore I would like to show you that we can retrieve a full range of Mold Base from Futaba Library. Futaba Mold Base Library Pick on the button “Load /Save As” leads you to the Standard Mold Base Library, Which allow you to save your own Customized Mold Base setting or You may retrieve from the Standard Library such as Futaba, DME etc PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Loading Futaba Mold Base Library Here I have different type of Futaba Mold Base Series, I would like to choose SC-Type for this demo. Press the Button LOAD will update the 2D diagram and this is very good because it help you to prevent from selecting a wrong Mold Base Now, I need to turn no the Work Piece which represent the actual size of the work insert. To do this, just have to select on the Model Button. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Highlight this option Showing Work Insert In this Window, you will see that EMX capture the actual size of the work insert automatically. Press the Model on button to show the model and press OK AS you can see the Work piece has appeared and now it is very obvious that this mold base is too small for this Work insert. Since I are not able to change the size of work piece, therefore I will need to enlarge the mold base size. To do that, just press on the size button and select the size you require and notice the 2D diagram updated automatically Select the size of 400*400 PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Mold Plate Modification Double click on this plate and it leads you to another window After changed the mold base size to 400* 400, the 2D diagram updated immediately. As you can see now, this mold base size is just nice and fit for this type of work piece size. There are many components we can change now, for example, I would like to change the thickness of cavity plate, what you need to do is double click on the 2D diagram and then change the parameter from the window. Here I can access to the component parameter very easily where I am allow to made any modification I want. For example, I would like to increase the thickness of this cavity plate to 60mm to strengthen the mold base. Press OK to accept the new parameter setting Leader Pin Modification Besides thickness of plate, I can also double click on the Leader pin from the 2D diagram where I can change the length of it (change from 57mm to 75mm) PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Return or Back Pin Modification This back pin looks too big for this mold base and I would like to change it?s diameter from 25mm to 15mm. Exactly the same the way I modified the plate thickness, just double click on the 2D diagram and change the Pin diameter from the back pin window… Now, I am satisfied with the current mold base setting and I would like to retrieve my mold base. (Press on the OK button to retrieve the mold base) What happen is EMX retrieve the mold base without all the standard components, the reason is to speed up the retrieval time.. However if you want to see all these components, what you need to do is just assemble it by selecting the components option here.. Assemble of all the standard Components Here you are to allow to check any components from this window and press OK button to assemble all the standard components automatically.. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Add Screw The first thing I need to do now is add Screw on the Located Ring Component, let me show you how to do it. Select the screw icon and pick one of the datum point here (top and bottom surface, please refer to the training tutorial for detail explanation). Now I just need to select the screw type from the screw window. Press OK once I complete the selection. This is now easy we create screw now.. (Don?t forget to highlight that we can add screw washer by selecting the option) THIS IS HOW EASY WE CREATE SCREW… NOTHING COULD BE EASIER THEN THIS…. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Screw Redefine What if I want to change the screw, for example screw type, size, length and so on? It is very simple, Press on this icon and just have to select on one of the datum point and redefine it by reselect the screw option… Add Ejector Pin After modifying the Screw type, the next thing I would like to do is to add Ejector Pin into my Mold Base. Select on the Ejector Pin icon and as usual, I just select the option from the Ejector pin window. After all the selection completed, just need to select on the Datum point and EMX will assemble and pattern all the ejector pins automatically. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Ejector Pin Assemble Completed Slider unit creation AS you can see, with EMX I spent only less then 2 minu tes to select and assemble the ejector Pins. Let me spin the Mold Base Around so that you can see that all the ejector pin are fixed with a slot at the bottom. Imagine if you were to use this with other traditional CAD system, how long do you that CAD system is going to take to this simple job? What about Slider creation ? With EMX I can create Slider unit with all the components including Angle pin, wear plate, Wedge Block etc in less then 5 minutes. First I need to select on a Coordinate system in which represent the location of the slider unit. Now, EMX prompt slider window in which I just have to click on those components I want to assemble. (Please highlight that the 2D diagram updates as I select on the slider option.) PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Modification on the mold layout Please look at the result! It only took me less then 5 minutes to complete the entire slider unit in which contains more 7 components. Again, if you were to use other traditional CAD system …Imagine the time consume…. OPTION STEP Create BOM or Simple Mold Drawing Imagine you need to increase the number of cavity.. Due to the market demand, my company requested me to change the mold layout to 2 cavity so that we can increase the productivity. Here is how EMX will help again.. Just have to select on the Mold Base icon which allow we to go back to my Basic Mold Base Layout where I can all the modification. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Change the value to 2 in the Quantity Option instead 1, Then change the value to 125 (maybe 145) in the Pattern Length option. Press OK button and you will see the 3D Mold Base in Pro/Engineer environment Update automatically (at this point, Most of the guys Will be very surprise with this kind of advance functionality, so use this Opportunity to say sth like, “you think UG can do this?”) PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Cooling Line Creation Now, EMX provides these standard Cooling line circuit by default, however as a mold designer I will like to create the cooling line circuit by myself Now, we can create cooling line creating a curve in Pro/Engineer, for this demo, I have created a datum curve at Part level and I need to unhide it from a layer. Let me switch to Mold base level, select the Cooling line icon and select the curve and EMX creates the Cooling feature with a plug at the end of the curve automatically. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script To create cooling channel in EMX is really easy, first of all , select the cooling icon and select the cooling option accordingly ,then the datum curve and a flat surface where the cooling feature end. See this is how easy we do it. IF you have enough just show some quick change on the Cooling feature example, Change the Plug to Nipple type or Connector type PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Show the BOM and Drawing if you have created it previously as optional step or else just create new BOM and Drawing As I was building up my Mold Base design, all my 2D data such as Drawing as well as Bill of Material are updated automatically behind the scene. Sometimes you may come across that you need to dimension a ejector plate with more 100 holes, in this case, let me show you the way we create Hole Chart with EMX (Please refer to the avi file of training tutorial if you need more explanation) PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script You may add other mold Components if time permits such as, Support Pillar, Spring etc “Lady and Gentlemen, as you can see I have almost completed my work including Model Analysis, Parting Surface, Splitting process, and mold base design. All I took was only around 45 minutes for all the works I just mentioned. Imagine how much of Money and time that Pro/Engineer, EMX can save for you? (Now throw in some Metric to further impact the demo)” BIG PRODUCT DESIGN MODIFICATION As you all know, there are always modification take place in product design world, now imagine our customer had made some major modification to the Product design and still expect me to complete my mold design on time. Let me show how I handle this kind of changes with the help of Pro/Engineer and EMX These are the design changes in the Product, Imagine I the product designer now…these are the modification I would like to made…(go back to Pro/Engineer Part mode and turn the layer on and turn on the model tree) Highlight the free form feature from the model tree and redefine it PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Modification no 1 Now, I will need to modify the outer appearance of this part by moving the curve freely on the surface, let me move these 3 points different location… (talk about ISDX if you think the time are right..) Modification no 2 For the second design modification, I would like to add 2 points onto this free form curve and move it down a little bit (to extra careful, don?t move it too drastic as it might fail the shell, Please practice few times before the real demo) PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script Modification no 3 (Optional if you have time) Finally, I would like to change the parting curve ..) Now, as you can see, I made sure big modification just within 5 minutes with Pro/Engineer, Imagine if you were to made this kind of changes with other type of CAD system such as…(up to you to kill, UG, Solidwork, Invento r..etc) PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script After all the big Design Changes took place, now it the time for me to show the POWER of Pro/Engineer…First of all, let me update my mold design where all my parting surface were define in that environment. PTC 2001 EMX Demo Pick and Script I am sure all of you should know the power of Pro/Engineer by now, Of course all the rest of deliverables would be updated automatically across the board in 1 minutes. Can somebody tell me what kind of CAD/CAM system can achieve this result? (Start to ask question do you think UG can do it etc, this is all up to you to ask, the purpose to create impact to the audience) To conclude the demo, Please open up all the result such Part has been changed, Mold design (Parting surface update), EMX all updated, Drawing, BOM. By doing this, the audience would be further impressed PTC 2001
