SANDINTERNALCONNECTIONS2.1.1MaterialsTerminalsandinternalconnections,intendedprimarilyforcarryingcurrent,shallbeofacorrosion-resistingmetalwithsufficienthardnessandrigidityfortheintendedapplication.2.1.2ConstructionofterminalsTheterminalsshallbeofsuitablesizeandformtoaccommodatetheconductorsofaflexiblecordofcurrent-carryingcapacitycorrespondingtothemarkedcurrentratingoftheplug.Facilitiesshallbeprovidedtopreventslippingorspreadingoftheconductorsorconductorstrands.Wherethefacilitiesaresuchthattheconductoristobelocatedaroundtheshankoftheterminalscrewandclampedunderthescrewhead,thefollowingrequirementsshallapply:(a)Whentheterminalscrewisscrewedintothelimitofitsthread,theclearancebetweentheheadofthescrewandthewasherorothermeansofretentionoftheconductorshallnotexceed0.4mm.(b)Theterminalscrewshallbeofsufficientlengthtoenableittobebackedoffsufficientlyfromthewasherorothermeansofretentionoftheconductorsothattheconductormaybelocatedaroundtheshankwithoutdifficulty.(c)Wherethemeansofretentionoftheconductorisnotcontinuous,e.g.prongs,thereshallbeatleastthreepointsofretentionandthemaximumanglebetweenanytwopointsshallnotexceed150掳.(d)Wherethemeansofretentionoftheconductoriscontinuous,e.g.aportionoftheinsulatingmoulding,theanglesubtendedbythearcofthemeansofretentionshallbenotlessthan180掳.2.2PLUGPINS2.2.1MaterialforpinsCurrent-carryingpartsofplugpinsshallbeofmetalwith,undertheconditionsoccurringintheplug,sufficientmechanicalstrength,electricalconductivityandresistancetocorrosionadequatefortheirintendeduse.Complianceischeckedbyinspectionand,whereindoubt,bychemicalanalysis.Examplesofsuitablematerials,whenusedwithinthepermissibletemperaturerangeandundernormalconditionsofchemicalpollution,are鈥�(a)copper;(b)copperalloycontainingatleast58%copperforpartsmadefromcoldrolledsheetoratleast50%copperforotherparts;or(c)stainlesssteelcontainingatleast13%chromiumandnotmorethan0.09%carbon.2.2.2AssemblyofpinsWhere,duringassembly,pinsmaybecomedetachedfromthebodyofaplugyetremainattachedtotheconductorsofaflexiblecord,orhavetobedetachedfromthebodytoenableconnection,itshallnotbepossibleforaplugtobeassembledwithanypinlocatedinapositionotherthanthatintended.9AS/NZS3112:2011COPYRIGHTInaplugmadeofresilientinsulatingmaterial,thepinsandterminalsshallbeheldsecurelyinposition.NOTE:SeeClause2.8fordimensionsofflatpins.2.2.3FormofpinTheplugpinsshallbeadequatelyproportionedthroughout,andtheportionadjacenttotheconnectionshallbedesignedtonotintroduceastressconcentrationwhichmayleadtoafractureofthepin,andshallbesuitablyshapedtopreventabrasionorcuttingofconductorstrandsduetoflexureinnormaluse.Theexposedendsofplugpinsshallhaveabevelorradiustofacilitateentryintosocket-outletsandtooperateshutters.Roundpinsshallhaveasemicircularendprofile.Flatpinswiththefollowingwidthandthicknessprofilesaredeemedtocomply:(a)Flatpinswitharadiusontheendwithsidebevels,asshowninFigure2.1(h),mayhavea鈥�(i)widthprofilewithanarconthecentrelineofthepinof鈥�(A)6mmforallpinsof10Aplugsandlivepinsof15Aplugs;or(B)11mmforearthpinsof15Aplugsandallpinsof20Aplugs;(ii)thicknessprofilewitheachcornerbevelled0.3mmto0.4mmalongthesides,finishingalongthepinat0.8mmto1.0mm.(b)Flatpinssquareontheendwithcornerbevelsandsidebevels,asshowninFigure2.1(i),mayhavea鈥�(i)widthprofilethatissquareandwitheachcornerbevelled0.6mmfinishingalongthepinat0.8mmto1.0mm;and(ii)thicknessprofilewitheachcornerbevelled0.3mmto0.4mmalongthesides,finishingalongthepinat0.8mmto1.0mm.(c)Flatpinssquareontheendwithcornerbevelsandaradiusonthesides,asshowninFigure2.1(j),mayhavea鈥�(i)widthprofilethatissquareandwitheachcornerbevelled0.6mmfinishingalongthepinat0.8mmto1.0mm;and(ii)thicknessprofilewitharadiusofapproximatelyhalfthematerialthicknessalongthesides,finishingalongthepinat0.8mmto1.0mm.Thecontactportionofthepinsshallbesmoothandfreefromopeningsorindentations;however,forflat-pinplugs,alongitudinalseamoropeninginthecontactportionofonefaceupto0.3mmwidthisdeemedtocomply.Thethicknessofanypinattheseamismeasuredusinga0.3mmthickbladeasindicatedinFigure2.3.NOTE:Thisistoensuresatisfactorymatingwithedge-typesocketcontacts.Theexposedportionofearthingpinsandpinsotherthaninsulatedpinsshallbefreefromanynon-metalliccoveringsorcoatings.2.2.4InsulationofplugpinsLivepartsofinsulatedpinplugsshallnotbeexposedwhentheplugispartiallyorfullyengagedwiththeassociatedsocket.ComplianceforplugsofthetypesshowninFigure2.1ischeckedbymeasurementtoFigure2.4.AS/NZS3112:201110COPYRIGHTForthepurposeofthisClause,lacquer,enamelorsprayedinsulatingcoatingisnotconsideredtobeinsulationmaterial.Plugsupto15AcomplyingwithFigure2.1(a),2.1(c)or2.1(f)(flatlivepins)andoftheinsulatedpinplugtypedonotneedtocomplywiththeR20.0卤1mmrequirementofFigure2.1(e).AlllivepinsonlowvoltageplugsexceptforthoseshowninFigure2.1(a2),(b)and(g)shallbeoftheinsulatedpintype.Thecolourgreenoracombinationofgreenandyellowshallnotbeusedfortheinsulationofinsulatedpins.2.3INSULATINGMATERIALS2.3.1GeneralExceptforceramics,allinsulatingmaterialsofaplugshallcomplywithClause2.13.11.Themouldingorencapsulatingmaterialshallbeofevent
