种族隔离政策 #22 A Committed Decision Counts 1 Well goes a saying, “It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.” From the moment you wake up until you sleep you are making decisions. Everything that happens in life both the thrilling and the challenging began somewhere with a decision. Decisions are a cause being set in motion. They are shaping your destiny every second. 2 Think over the following questions: How are you shaping your destiny today? What decisions have you made get you where you are today and what decisions are you making today to give you a better tomorrow? Here are some reminders, which may become the guidance of your own life.. 3 First, It is the decisions not the conditions of your life that determine your destiny. An inspiring speaker, Neal Peterson, whom I had the pleasure of hearing speak recently, looked at his disadvantages and turned them into advantages. His decision was that just being black in apartheid South Africa, poor and disabled didn’t mean he could not achieve his dream. He decided these things would not limit him but would in fact be an advantage in his life. What happened as a result? He sailed solo around the world in a rich man’s sport in a homemade boat against all odds. 4 Second, the power of a decision comes when you decide to be committed. There is a big difference in being interested in something and being committed to it. Statements such as “I’d really like to make more money.” or “I’d like to make a difference.” or “I’d like to be closer to my kids.” or “I’d like to give up smoking.” are just stating a preference. These statements are very weak and hold no power. 5 However, The power of decision gives you the capacity to get past any excuse to change any and every part of your life in an instant. Take me for example. For years I stated that I would like to be a vegetarian and nothing happened as there was no commitment there. And then one day for me something triggered and I made a decision. It was “That’s it from this day forward I am a vegetarian.” There was the decision, the commitment and for 4 years now I have not eaten meat. And it was so easy. I don’t miss it a bit and never did from the moment I took the power back and made a committed decision. 6 In addition, try to be yourselves. Sometime, not making a decision is a decision. As a matter of fact, I didn’t make any decisions to get me to where I am now. I didn’t decide this for myself. In that way, somebody else ends up making the decision for you, so ultimately that comes back to your original decision not to make one. Most of time making choices is really very difficult, even painful and you can choose to make no decisions. 7 The word “decision” actually comes for the Latin roots meaning “to cut off from.” Making a true decision means committing to achieving a result and then cutting yourself off from any other possibility. If you truly decide to you can do almost anything, start by proclaiming “This is who I am and what my life is all about. Nothing will stop me from achieving my destiny. This is what I am going to do and I won’t be denied.” 1 Notes: ?destiny: n. What happens to sb.
