Seven-character-quatrain Wang Wei On the mountain holiday thinking of my brothers in Shandong All alone in a foreign land, I am twice as homesick on this day When brothers carry dogwood up the mountain, Each of them a branch-and my branch missing. Reminiscing My Brothers on the Double 9th In a foreign land, I'm a stranger, All the more,I miss my blood brothers. Climbing with cornels you are, I know , But I am not with you together! Missing My Brothers in Shandong on the Double Ninth Festival (Seven-character-quatrain) I am an outsider at a foreign place alone, Every occasion of festivity finds me missing my family manifold. In the distance my brothers must be making a climb into the highlands, They would have evodia to their sleeves attached and my absence noted. 王宝童的译文(上海世图 2005 版《王维百首(汉英对照图文本)》 On Double Ninth Day Thinking of My Brothers at Home A lonely stranger in a strange land I’m cast, Sore sick for my dears on every festive day. By now my brothers must some heights have passed, But a cornel wearer missing’ll damp the play. 唐一鹤的译文(天津人民出版社 2005 版《英译唐 300 首》) Reminiscent of My Brothers in Puzhou to the east of Huashan on the Double Ninth Festival Being a stranger alone in a strange land, I miss my dear ones on every happy festival with a heavy mind. I know from afar the heights where my brothers have ascended With dogwoods on their heads but without me accompanied. 陈君朴的译文(上海大学出版社 2005 版《汉英对照唐绝句 150 首》) Thinking of My Brothers in Shandong on the Double Ninth Festival A stranger in a strange land on each holiday I think of my kinsmen with a double care. I know when my brothers wear medicine bags Pure Brightness (Qing Ming) Festival By Du MU It’s drizzling thickly and profusely On the Pure Brightness Day. A wayfarer is overwhelmed with sorrows On his way. “Excuse me, can you tell me Where to find a wineshop in the village?” “Over there,” the shepherd boy pointing to The distant Apricot Blossoms Village. Note and Commentary: The poem describes a pedestrian traveling in the countryside in the midst of drizzling on the Qing Ming Festival, who asks a shepherd boy where to find a wineshop to dispel his sorrows. The Qingming Festival By Du Mu On the Qingming Day, rain is falling uninterrupted, And the wayfarer is more than ever broken-hearted; “Is there any wine shop hereabouts?” A buffalo boy Points to a distant village where apricots are spotted. The rain falls thick and fast on All Souls' Day, The men and women sadly move along the way. They ask where wineshops can be found or where to rest ---- And there the herdboy's fingers Almond-Town suggest. The ceaseless drizzle drips all the dismal day, So broken-hearted fares the traveler on the way. When asked where could be found a tavern bower, A cowboy points to yonder village of the apricot flower. A drizzling rain falls like tears on the Mourning Day; The mourner's heart is going to break on his way. Where can a wineshop be found to drown his sad hours? A cowherd points to a cot 'mid apricot flowers. It drizzles thick and fast on the Pure Brightness Day, I travel with my heart lost in dismay. "Is there a public house somewhere, cowboy?" He points at Apricot Village faraway. It drizzles endless during the rainy season in spring, Travelers along the road look gloomy and miserable. When I ask a shepherd boy where I can find a tavern, He points at a distant hamlet nestling amidst apricot blossoms. The Clear-and-Bridge Feast By Du Mu Upon the Clear-and-Bright Feast of spring The rain drizzleth down in spray. Pedestrians on country-side ways In gloom are pining away. When asked “where a tavern fair for rest Is hereabouts to be found”, The shepherd boy the Apricot Bloom Vill Doth point to afar and say. New Year’s Day by Wang Anshi The noise of crackers sends the old year away, The spring wind makes New Year wine warm; The bright sun shines thousands of houses, New charms replace the old ones to protect us. The noise of crackers sends away the old last year, The spring wind makes wine warm for New Year; The bright sun shines hundred thousands of houses, New charms replace the old ones to protect us. New Year's Day Firecrackers are shouting good-bye to the last year, In warm spring breeze people drink wine with cheer. Thousands of households greet the bright rising sun, Replacing each couplet on the door with a new one. "Cold Food" Festival (1) Han Hong All over the Capital catkins flew wantonly, A scene of the spring so significant: On "Cold Food" the east wind willfully Made the imperial willows slant. Now as the dusk approached quietly Within the Han palace candles glowed Towards the five mansions of nobility (2) The silvery smoke of the tapers flowed. (1)At the "Cold Food" festival which lasted three days in spring in ancient times, ordinary folks were told to take cold food without making any fire for cooking or other purposes. (2)Both the catkins and the east wind allude to the "five mansions of nobility" or the emperor's favourite eunuchs who were in power during the Han Dynasty. (胡壮麟 译)AFTER THE DAY OF NO FIRE Petals of spring fly all through the city From the wind in the willows of the Imperial River. And at dusk, from the palace, candles are given out To light first the mansions of the Five Great Lords 《中秋月》苏轼 暮云收尽溢清寒,银汉无声转玉盘, 此生此夜不长好,明月明年何处看? The Mid-autumn Moon Su Shi Dusk clouds vanish because of wind and the world's full of cool, The Milky Way runs still and the moon looks like round jade plate. I have seldom seen the night as beautiful as tonight, Where shall I be when I see the same bright moon the next year?(郭著章 译) The Mid-Autumn Moon Su Shi Evening clouds withdrawn, pure cold air floods the sky; The River of Stars mute, a fine plate turns on high. How often can we have a fine Mid-autumn Night? Where shall we view next year a silver moon as bright? (许渊冲、许明 译) Mid-autumn (Moon) Su Shi The evening clouds are gone, the air is cool and clear, The Milky way is mute, the moon a shining sphere. This life and lovely night will not last long for me, Then where shall I another year this bright moon see? Su Shi Hot air along with evening clouds is gone, The moon rolling in the sky like a jade ball. My life just like this night will not last long, Where shall I be next year at this Festival? At Lantern Festivalby Ouyang Xiu Lights were bright as day in the flower-market last year, And the moon was mounting above us to the tops of willows, The lovers meeting to keep their tryst after dusk just here. The bright lights and the moon look as good as last year, But the lovers can’t be seen now at Lantern Festival, Tears making my sleeves wet, coming down my cheers. 但最大的修改 是把 The lovers 换成 We lovers(第四行),把 the lovers 换成 she(第五行)。 Lights were bright as day last year In the market of flowers, And the moon was mounting to the tops of willows above us, We lovers meeting to keep their tryst after dusk just here. The bright lights and the moon look as good as last year, But She can’t be seen now at Lantern Festival, Tears making wetmy sleeves , Coming down my cheers. In the Lantern Festival night of last year, The flower market was bright as day. When the moon hung behind the willows, People went out on dates under them. In the Lantern Festival night of this year, The moon and the lanterns were the same. I cannot not find my last year's date, My sleeves of festival dress are wet with tears. In the Lantern Festival night last year, The flower market was lit up by the lanterns bright as day. When the moon climbed to the top of the willow tree, I met my date on time --just after the nightfall. In the Langern Festival night this year, The moon, the lanterns were same there. I could not find my last year's date, My festival dress sleeves were wet with tears. “去年人”译成 my last year's date,是神来之笔,令人叹为观止。
