J:welcome to nwpu. First may I ask your names
P: pallise
Isak ; isak
N: what’s your major and grade
P: our major is English we are taking language study
I : I am a bachelor and she is a master
N : oh we are English majors too
J : can you give us some brief introductions about your daily in college?
I : oh a big question. As for daily life, we go to classes and try different Chinese food. After class, in my spare time I also play some instruments.
P :I have lessons three days a week. I have lunch after class. I think the canteen is cheap and good. Because in Sweden we just don’t want to go to the canteen, food there is expensive. I came there maybe once a year. Now that’s good here, we don’t need to cook.. we try different things in different canteens. We also study and do our homework in free time.
I : we try to know our neighbors and in weekends we make long trips in downtown to some famous attractions.
N : have you found some difficulties in adjusting into the new life in china?
P :nothing in the university but maybe in china. because almost no one speaks English, that’s the difficult thing. Life is limited because o f the language. We go to downtown and we worry that we can’t go back home.
I :it’s hard for us to know the routes
P : yes, we are very depending on the guides, that’s will be less freedom.
J : how do you meet with the culture shock?
P : we think Chinese people are a bit more quiet but we are more out spoken. And I also think Chinese people are friendly and warm-hearted.
I :yes, it is easy to get Chinese people to help you. And it is quite easy to make friends with Chinese people. I think getting good friends is very hard in Sweden.
P : maybe everything is not like that in Sweden, so we need to accept Chinese differences and try to learn a lot. Try to be open-minded, that will help a lot.
I : try to find the common things we have.
J : and so much for this topic, then we change to another question. Why do you chose nwpu to accomplish your further education?
P : in our department we had exchange project with china. We also had us and England.
I : Canada, too
P ; but I am not interested in England, because it is much similar with Sweden. It’s noting new. And the us is the same, too as well as the Canada. But china is quite different.
I : so we are curious and I want to take the opportunity to experience life in china.
N : so you want experience something new.
I and p : yes.
N:what is nwpu like in your mind before you came here?and after you came, is it the same as your imagination?
P :before, I was thinking that Chinese student will be very motivated and very hard-working. And study here is harder. In Sweden, it is much softer. And I though that teachers are very strict, but
they are not that strict. So I think I have higher expection.
