乾陵英文介绍 Qianling Mausoleum Qianling, the joint to tomb of Tang Emperor GaoZong (li zhi by name) and Empress WuZeTian, lies on Mount liangshan in the north of Qianxian county, ShaanXi province. It is 80km from Xi’an. It’s among the first group of important cultural relics units under state protection. LiZhi,the ninth son of Emperor Tai Zong, ascended the throne in 649. He reigned for 34 years.in 683, he died in luoyang and was buried in QianLing in the following year. WuZeTian, named Zhao, once was a concubine of TaiZong. After his death, she won the favour of Emperor GaoZong and became his empress. After the death of GaoZong, she dethroned Emperor zhongzong and the successor RuiZong. Soon she estabished the Great Zhou Empire and wore the crown. She was the only woman ruler in china’s history. Having reiged for 21 years, she died at the age of 82 in LuoYang. In 706, she was also buried in QianLing. Mount LiangShan, with a height of 1047.9 meters above sea level, comprises a peak and two lower hills. The peak stands out grandly with the underground palace hidden inside. To the south of it are two hills facing each other west to east, which the local people call Nipple Hills. Viewing it in a distance, QianLing looks like a sleeping beauty. It’s recorded that the cemetery is enclosed with an inner city wall and an outer city wall. The inner wall, with a coverage of 2.3 million square meters, has four gates-the Blue Dragon gate (east), the white Tiger gate (west), the Phoenix gate (south) and the Tortoise gate (north). The outer wall is 40km in circumference. The buildings in the cemetery include a sacrificial hall, side halls and watch towers, etc. Qianling, built on hills, copied by the capital Tang Changan city, with many large and exquisite stone sculptures, was the model of the succesive dynasties. It is known as The First-Rank place of Royal Mausoleums in the Past Dynasties. According to historical records and excavations, Qianling is possibly the only Tang-Dynasty Mausoleum yet unrobbed. To the southeast of Qianling fan out 17 satellite tombs. From 1960 to 1972, 5 of them were excavated. Over 4000 valuable cultural relics as well as many frescos and the lined carvings had been unearthed. All these provide material data for the study of the polotics, economy, military affairs, culture and architecture of the Tang Dynasty. So far the tombs of princess YongTai, Crown prince YiDe and Crown prince zhanghuai have been opened to tourists both from home and abroad.
