大学英语四级范文 A Brief Introduction to a Tourist Attraction Dear friends, Welcome to New Yock.I am very pleased to be your guide for today's tour.We have a wonderful day for sightseeing and I hope you will have a great time. New Yock, nicknamed as "the big apple"has many places worth seeing. Our first stop this morning will be the Statue of Liberty,a major tourist attraction of New Yock. Then we'll visit the Empire State Building, which used to be the world's tallest building. After a lunch break in Chinatown, lovers of art may have a feast at Metropolitan Museum of Art.We'll spend two hour there and then head for Times Square, which will end our today's tour. We are now approaching the famous Statue of Liberty, which has welcomed visitors to New Yock Harbor since 1886.The statue was given to the United States by the people of France. If you like, you can climb all the way up to the crown. But let me tell you a little more about the statue before you climb to the top.In case you wondering what the statue is made of,it has a framework inside that's made of iron;the outer skin is made of copper. The supporting framework inside the statue is what holds the whole things together. Dear Zhangming, I propose that you apply for the major of English.to begin with,English is the most popular language in the world, which is widely used in all fields. What's more,it goes without saying that English majors are likely to find a good job in the tighter job market. As far as the preparation work is concerned, you should first of all review those required vocabulary. In adiition, you'd better do some resding and writing.Only through these measure can you hope to enroll in our university. (三)The Day My Classmate Fell Ill(or Got inhured) Last year,a terrible flu spread the whole city. One of my dormmates,Sunlin, was struck down by the virus. He ran a high fever, and through the body. And he could not eat anything and seemed to become more ill each day.We were so worried that we realised that something must be done to help Sun Lin out of his agony. We sent him to the university clinics and paid for the treatment and medicine with money from our life maintenance. The news quickly reached everybody in our class. At first, some students were afaid that they could be inflected too.Fortunately, everyone thought they should try theur best to help him. Some teachers provided daily necessities and some students recorded the English classfor him so that Sun Lin could keep up with his study. With everybody's care and help,Sun Lin soon was able to be up and about and come back to the class. From this event,we all learned that our society is full of love, warmand peacefull,in which people wehter man or woman, young or old,are always to redy to do others afavor.Just like a famous song goes,"the world will turn into heaven only everyone contributea s little."and I do believe that this maxim will live forever (四)An Eyewitness Account of a Traffic Accident My name is Tom. I am studying at a college. A week ago I saw a traffic accident, which is still vivid in my mind. It was at about 9:00 on Sunday morning, June 15, when I was going out of the university to visit a friend of mine at another university. I was walking leisurely on the sidewalk when I heard a loud crash. Two vehicles collided into each other just at the T-junction about 10 meters away. It was a traffic accident. I went up right away and found that the two taxies were badly damaged. Both roofs were out of shape. One door of a car was knocked off and lying on the road. One driver was bleeding and another was shut in the taxi. Some people were trying to help the driver get out of the damaged car. One man was calling to the traffic policeman station. A lot of cars were jammed on the road. From the stopping tack on the road, it is clear that the two taxis were driving too fast. But it is just one of the reasons. In my opinion, the taxi drivers are eager to take more passengers and make a little money. On the other hand, both drivers don’t show any concern for each other. Both of them wanted to run in front of the other. Therefore, the accident is inevitable. So far, we should ask the drivers to keep it in their mind that a little slower, a little safter. Taking care of other’s lives means taking care of your life. (五) It Pays to be honest What is Honesty? Honesty means speaking the truth and being fair and upright in act. Considered a virtue, it is admired in every country and every culture. He who lies and cheats is dishonest. Dishonest is generally looked upon as an evil, and is despised and condemned by everyone. However, there are people who try to get benefit by dishonest means. For example, some students copy the exercise done by others or cheat on examination, in order to get good marks. The same thing may be said of a merchant who tries to get rich by deceiving customers. Those people may succeed for a time, but sooner or later, they will bring them nothing but troubles. As the English proverb goes, honest is the best policy. For one thing, if you want to be trusted and respected by your friends, you must be honest. A liar is always looked downed upon and avoided by the people around him. For another, if you want succeed in your work, the first qualification you should have is honesty. Therefore, what ever your aim is, you must work honestly to attain it (六)Student Use of Computer With computers becoming more and more easily accessible on the campus, college students are spending more time than ever doing their routine tasks electronically in the last decade. In 1990, for example, the average number of hours a student spent on the computer per week was less than 2 hours. Up to 2000, however, time spent on the computer increased suddenly to almost 20 hours a week. Many reasons account for this growing trend. The last decade has witnesses an astonishing development in IT industry: the uses of computer are diversified, their costs are significantly cut down, and the software is becoming more and more use-friendly. On the campus, for example, students may study many courses on computers, surf on line for the latest information in their fields, and the outside world through web more frequently and conveniently. The easy access to computers on the campus may also bring about some problems. The research-and-education-based use account for smaller portion of the whole use, either because the development of subject-related software lag behind, or because students are more caught up in computer entertainment such as playing video games, and chatting online. Therefore, more attention should be called to the wise and academic use of computers on the campus. (七)Dear Mr. President, I’m an ordinary undergraduate majoring in Chinese I our university. My name is Liming. Since our university holds about 100000 undergraduate and 2000 postgraduates, the three meals in daily life becomes the most urgent concern. I’m obliged to write to you about the canteen service on campus. Every coin has its two sides. So does the canteen service. As is known, the canteen was redecorated last month. Now it becomes magnificent both inside and outside. We are bathed in pleasure and pride in such striking architecture. To be frank, higher-quality food and vegetable Are available. Besides, the services are also better. In the meanwhile, the prices have risen so considerably that they have aggravated the poorer students’ burden. A few of my classmates who came from the remote mountainous areas to feed chiefly on staple food. In the long run it will do great harm to health and then threaten their study. In my opinion, the canteen should try to lower the cost so as to serve all students. Such is the truth about the canteen service on campus. In this way you will have a good idea of the work concerned. I am looking forward to your reply. Yours sincerely, Liming (八)Dear Lily, I am most happy to receive your June 6th letter and hear that you are going to visit me during the first week of July. Yours, Electra (9) How to Succeed in a Job Interview A job interview is vital to the job-hunting process in that if you are successful in it, you stand a good chance of final obtaining the ideal job. Then how can we succeed in job interview? In the first place, you should dress and behave properly in order to leave a good first impression on the interviewer. In the second place, when it comes to talking, you should speak of your expertise and special abilities clearly and honestly. What’s more, self-confidence is also an important factor, telling the interviewer that you will face the challenge whenever you encounter difficulties. You will succeed in a job interview as long as you put the above principles into practice. As a result, you will probably obtain the job you have been dreaming of (10) Is a Test of Spoken English Necessary? A test of spoken English will be included as an optional component of College English Test(CET). We have all taken various English tests, but so far most of them are written ones. Have you and is it necessary to go to all the trouble to hold or take such a test? People differ in their answers. Many people will think it necessary to take a test of spoken English. They know that although they have taken dozens, even hundreds, of English tests ever since they started learning it and many even have got surprisingly high marks, few of them can express themselves freely in spoken English. And if people can’t speak a word of it, what’s the sense of learning it and what do those high marks mean? They’re none but deaf-and-mutes before the native speakers. Furthermore, with so many college students and undergraduates having passed CET-4 and CET-6, a test of spoken English is an effective way to distinguish the excellent from the ordinary. Finally, it is considered a new challenge to those who “live and learn”. However, other people think otherwise. They believe there is the uncertainty about the reliability and objectivity of the marking system, which may depend chiefly(thus subjective) on human scoring instead of on machine scoring, as in the case of a standardized objective test such as CET-4 and CET-6. At the prospect of this optional test, I feel encouraged and view it as a welcome challenge and another opportunity to improve my language ability and career potentials. I am determined to practice my spoken English more often, and if I am qualified for such a test, I will not hesitate a moment to take it.
