英语翻译速成技巧 (A) deterfination(定义): Translation is communicative act (健谈的行为)between different languages and culturals achieved through selecting the nearest equivalent in the target language for the message units in the source language(源语言). (B) the standard(): 1 Lin Yu Tang(林语堂) :fidelity(忠实);mellifluence (通顺)。 2 Yan Fu(严复): faithfulness(信); Expressiveness(达); elegance(雅). 注:目前使用的是林语堂先生的评价标准。 (C) basic methods of translation: 1 直译:Literal translation. 在翻译语言条件允许时,在翻译中既要保持原文内容,又要保持原文形式,特别保持原文的比喻,形象和民族地方色彩的。 Examples: 1 a bad egg 坏蛋 ; 2 behind the times 过时了 ;3 behind the schedule 晚点 ; 4 save one’s face 留面子;5 turn over a new leaf 翻开新的一页;6 barking dog never bite 吠犬不咬人 .7 nothing could be done 无所事事 . 2 意译:free translation。 1 What a shame! 真可惜! 2 the supper is on the house晚餐是免费的。 3 do you see any green in my eyes? 我可不是好欺负的。 4 eat one’s words 承认说错话。 5 break one’s promise 食言。 6 too think to much of oneself 自高自大。 7 at eleventh hour 迫在眉睫 8 show one’s the door 把人赶出去。 (D)the comparison of Chinese and English for translation. 1 意思完全一样: 1 教室classroom 2 book 3 电话 telephone 4 轿车car 5 公交 bus 6 理解 understand. 2 部分意思对应: 1 兄弟弟哥哥 brother 2 姐妹妹姐妹 sister 3 娶嫁marry 4 借还 borrow. 3 一次多意(以soft为例): 1 轻音乐 soft music 2 软垫 soft pillow 3 纸币soft money 4 软饮料 soft drink 5 轻风 soft breeze 6 柔光soft light 7 和蔼的声音 soft voice 8 文火 soft fire 9 委婉的话 soft words 10 拍马屁的人 soft soaper E.g. 1 the record has been considerated soft even since it was set last may. 这个记录自去年五月份创造以来就被认为很容易打破。 2 marijuana is usually recorded as a soft drug. 大麻常被视为低毒性的毒品。 4 词序不同: 在汉语中,汉语时间状语放在前后皆可。 (1)形容词副词作定语。 A research-oriented hospital 以研究为导向的医院。Something important一些重要的事情。 He is a little yellow ragged lame unshaven beggar. 他是一个乞丐,并且个子低,衣服破,腿瘸且满脸胡子的人。 (2) 英汉中主从复合句中的顺序。 A 英语复合句中示时间的从句可放在主句前面,也可以放在后面。而汉语通常先发生了的事情先说,后发生的事后说(即先发生先到)。 E.g. nothing has happened since we departed. 自从我们分别了,我们什么事都没有了。 B 汉语复合句中的逻辑顺序是先因后果,而英语中比较灵活。 E.g. he has to stay at home yesterday,(because he is ill从句)。 (E) 英译汉常用方法: A 引申法:引申常用词的意思(以like为例)。 E.g. he likes singing. 他喜欢唱歌。 He looks like his father. 他看起来很像他父亲 Like knows like. 英雄所见略同。 Like charges repel, unlike charges attract. 同性相斥,异性相吸。 2 (以develop为例) Develop films 冲洗胶卷。 He developed an interest in literature. 他培养了对艺术的兴趣。 We must develop the revolutionary tradition 我们必须发展革命性的传统。 We decided to develop a chemical plant. 我们决定开办一个化工厂。 3practice(练习) (以last为例) 1 He is the last man to come. 他上来的最晚的一个。 2 He is the last man to do it. 他绝不会干这种事情。 3 He is the last person for such the job. 他是最不适合这个工作的人。 4 He should be the last to blame. 他是最不该受到责备的人。 5 He is the last man to consult. 他是最不应该被商量的人。 6 This is the last place where I expected to meet you. 我万万没有想到能在这里遇见你。 B 褒贬法:褒贬词类的翻译。 1 He was a man of high renown.
