Masterpiece of love redefined
Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir both were great thinkers, philosophers and writers of France. They were already widely known in the world today, and become one of our era's most influential figures. Their legendary life is the topic of discussion. One of the most controversial is that they live together for life, but not to perform marriages. They are buried next to each other when life goes to an end.
It’s hard to overstate the importance of two French intellectuals, Jean-Paul
Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, in the history of postmodern romance. Much has been written that discredits their image, but the fairy tale lives on. They were their own masterpiece of love redefined. The two became inseparable and lifelong companions, initiating a romantic relationship, though they were not get married.
They met in 1929 when they were both studying at the Sorbonne. At that time, Beauvoir was young and beautiful. One interesting point about Beauvoir: Her father had lost much of his money and had no dowry for either of his two daughters. Early in life, she knew she might never marry and might have to support herself.
She was infatuated with a married man when she met Sartre, but Sartre was her first lover. He was brilliant, witty, full of humor. She saw something in him she believed she would never find in anyone else and she was probably right.
Sartre, who had once been engaged to another woman, told Beauvoir that he would be a lifelong bachelor. He was incapable of sexual fidelity, but he would like her to be the most “essential” woman in his life. They soon got jobs at schools in different provincial towns and spent weekends together.
They had a contract. They agreed to see each other often, accept other relationships and tell each other everything about other lovers. This final aspect of their pact was the key to the psychological dynamic in the years ahead. They
would tell each other everything.
The Beauvoir-Sartre legend was a tale of freedom from some conventions, but not others. Beauvoir was strikingly different from other women at that time, and she can’t be imitated. They both had their own thoughts, as well as, they were rather optimistic. The spirit of adventure must have the result of behavior. Otherwise, people would be daydreamers. Ordinary people can not do this like them. The most solid feeling is worship between the two. They broke the traditional conception that love is selfish. Love her or him, and love people who she loves or he loves. They did not lose themselves in the beautiful encounter of diverse mates and knew how to make a choice. They put each other in the heart and conveyed the warmth.
Thanks to the eternal encouragement and support between each other, they had become the first person to read each other’s works. If there is no Sartre,
there isn’t a Beauvoir and vice versa.
