Teaching Material Analysis:
This is period one in the unit. The reading passage is a play adapted from Mark Twain’s short story by the same title. Mark Twain is the greatest humorist of the 19th century American literature as well as a great playwright. Many of his plays are known to people all over the world. And The Million Pound Bank-Note is one of the best. So teacher can lead in the topic by having a free talk with students about the background knowledge about Mark Twain and his play. And students are encouraged to preview the text and find out the new words and structures themselves.
Teaching Objectives:
1. Enable Ss sum up the main idea of Act 1, Scene 3 and understand the details about the whole scene.
2. Enable Ss to know more about Mark Twain and his play.
3. Arouse Ss’ interesting in learning English through enjoying Mark Twain’s play and acting out the Act 1, Scene 3.
4. Enable students to read and hear natural language in a dramatic context and increase their self-confidence in using English, which will increase their overall motivation to learn English.
