Optimist and the Pessimist 乐天派与悲观者
Optimist and the Pessimist
For everybody, life is far from being perfect. There are so many unsatisfactory things in our lives that sometimes we may think life is all about failure and setback. Success and failures, happiness and sadness, gains and loses are all the components of life. Owing to them, life becomes colorful, and full of surprises and amazements.
There are two different people in our life. Someone is an optimist, they always have maintained a positive attitude towards life, while someone is a pessimist; they always keep a negative attitude of many things. While talking about the optimist and pessimist, I can't help thinking of an advertisement I have watched: The optimist say: Wow! There is still half bottle of water! While the pessimist sighed: there is only half bottle of water left.
Optimists’ hope of life is like the people in the desert who hope water and food. The expectation of success often gets the better of them, for owing to their love of life they cannot bear being slighted, and are indignant if they imagine themselves without hope. No matter what happened, they look at the good side rather than the bad. They are sanguine; nature warms their bloods that, they have as yet met with few disappointments. Optimists have exalted notions, because they have not yet been humbled by life or learnt its necessary limitations; moreover, their hopeful disposition makes them think themselves equal to great
things—and that means having exalted notions.
Pessimists ―think‖, but never ―know‖; because of their hesitation they
always add a ―possible‖ or a ―perhaps‖, putting everything this way and nothing positively. Further, their character makes them distrustful and therefore suspicious of everything. They are small-minded and cowardly, and are always anticipating danger, because they have been humbled by life: their desires are set upon nothing because of their negative attitude. Pessimists lack of confidence in the future; partly through experience – for most things go wrong, or anyhow turn out worse than one expect; and partly because of their cowardice. They live by memory rather than by hope; for what is left to them of life is but little as compared with the past. Pessimists may feel pity out of their apprehensive or worrying, imagining that anything that befalls any one else might easily happen to them, which, as we saw, is a thought that excites pity.
Time passes away every moment in our life. We can cherish the memory of lost things, but do not always negative. God would not be so cruel that turn off every window of our. But life will continue, no matter what happened, obviously, it is our attitude that really matters. Let's keep a positive attitude towards life, and it will be better!
