AStudy of Byronic Hero The Byronic hero is a variant of the Romantic hero as a type of character, named after the English Romantic poet Lord Byron. Although there are a range of traits and characteristics that exemplify the type, both Byron's own persona as well as characters from his writings is considered to provide defining features. This paper studies the definition and literature of Byronic hero, and try to conclude the character of it. The Byronic hero is, in some way, the portrait of Byron himself or rather of what Byron would have liked to appear and tried to seem before the people he knew. Neither was he troubled about concealing negative sides of that hero: the feeling of being a victim of Fate (Calvinistic influences in Byron's education), remorse for past committed crimes, the life as an eternal exile, the tendency to incestuous relationships means the end of the 19th century British romantic poet, Byron type of characters in the works. They, Byronic Hero proud stubbornness, dissatisfaction with reality, both for fight, with rebellious personality; but at the same time appear melancholy, loneliness, pessimistic, out of the crowd. And they can be conceptualized as an extreme variation of the Romantic hero archetype. Byronic heroes are marked not only by their outright rejection of traditional heroic virtues and values but also their remarkable intelligence and cunning, strong feelings of affection and hatred, impulsiveness, strong sensual desires, moodiness, cynicism, dark humor, and morbid sensibilities. Traditional Romantic heroes tend to be defined by their rejection or questioning of standard social conventions and norms of behavior, their alienation from larger society, their focus on the self as the center of existence, and their ability to inspire others to commit acts of good and kindness. Romantic heroes are not idealized heroes, but imperfect and often flawed individuals who, despite their sometimes less than savory personalities, often behave in a heroic manner. The archetype of the Byronic hero is also similar in many respects to the figure of the traditional Romantic hero. Both Romantic and Byronic heroes tend to rebel against conventional modes of behavior and thought and possess personalities that are not traditionally heroic. However, Byronic heroes usually have a greater degree of psychological and emotional complexity than traditional Romantic heroes. In anotherrespect, Byronic heroes tend to appear larger than life, and dress and style themselves in elaborate costumes for the purpose of making themselves as different from others as possible. They are marked not only by their outright rejection of traditional heroic virtues and values but also their remarkable intelligence and cunning, strong feelings of affection and hatred, impulsiveness, strong sensual desires, moodiness, cynicism, dark humor and morbid sensibilities. Cooked up by the "mad, bad, and dangerous to know" Lord Byron, a Byronic hero is an antihero of the highest order. He (or she) is typically rebellious, arrogant, anti-social or in exile, and darkly, enticingly romantic. Byronic heroes tend to be characterized as being:Intelligent, cunning, and ruthless, arrogant depressive, Violent, self-aware, emotionally, intellectually tortured, traumatized, highly emotional manipulative, Self-serving, Spiritually doubtful, often reckless or suicidal, Prone to bursts of anger decidedly prone to substance abuse, Dedicated to pursuing matters of justice over matters of legality, given to self-destructive impulses, seductive and sexually-appealing and so on . The origins literature of the Byronic hero can be traced to John Milton's Satan in Paradise Lost. For Byron's version, check out his poem Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage (1812–1818). Historian and critic Lord Macaulay described the character as "a man proud, moody, and cynical, with defiance on his brow, and misery in his heart, a scorner of his kind, implacable in revenge, yet capable of deep and strong affection”. He notoriously swoon-worthy Heathcliff in Emily Bronte's novel Wuthering Heights is also a very famous Byronic hero. In 19th-century Western literature, there are countless examples of Byronic heroes, including the protagonists of nearly all of Byron's epic poems, including the protagonists of nearly all of Byron's epic poems, particularly Manfred, Don Juan, and The Corsair and so on. There are also countless examples of Byronic heroes in 20th-century Western literature, including the Phantom from Gaston Leroux's novel The Phantom of the Opera, Jake Barnes from Ernest Hemingway's novel The Sun Also Rises, Ian Fleming's James Bond character, and F. Scott Fitzgerald's Jay Gatsby from his novel The Great Gatsby. Of course there are many people tostudy this word, Atari Stein did a paper named Immortals and Vampires and Ghosts, Oh My: Byronic Heroes in Popular Culture, in it, she’s studyingtheByronic Hero expression in 20th century, she considered this word is created several centuriesago, but it has never ended. In the new age, it has many manifestation modes to show their Byronic Hero. There are many stories, films, songs can prove it .Such as science fiction novels as Tim Powers’ The Anubis Gates and The Stress of Her Regard, Dan Simmons's Hyperion series to their appearance; films as Haunted Summer and Gothic to Byron's appearance in the syndicated television series Highlander; Popular music often echoes Romantic themes and makes allusions to Romantic poems, and many rock performers seem reincarnations of the Romantic poet. Another paper named Hero Byron and Byronic Hero, analysis of the close relationship between Hero Byron and Byronic Hero Byron's scandalous history, exotic travels, and flamboyant life made such an impression on the world that the term "Byronic" was coined to mean romantic, arrogant, dark, and cynical. The Byronic hero presents an idealized, but flawed character whose attributes include: great talent; great passion; a distaste for society and social institutions; a lack of respect for rank and privilege (although possessing both); being thwarted in love by social constraint or death; rebellion; exile; an unsavory secret past; arrogance; overconfidence or lack of foresight; and, ultimately, a self-destructive manner. The figure of the Byronic hero pervades much of his work, and Byron himself is considered to epitomize many of the characteristics of this literary figure. All in all, differenttimes, the Byronic heroes is endowed with different performance, and they will have some new characters with the time goes, and it make this name have many new means, so it will never outmoded.
