Better still, perhaps, is the practice of reading it twice, once at the beginning of the discussion and once at the end, so the sound of the poem is the last thing one hears of it. All discussions of poetry are, in fact, preparations for reading it aloud, and the reading of the poem is, finally, the most telling “interpretation”(解读) of it, suggesting tone, rhythm, and meaning all at once. Hearing a poet read the work in his or her own voice, on records or on film, is obviously a special reward. But even those aids to teaching can not replace the student and teacher reading it or, best of all, reciting it. I have come to think, in fact, that time spent reading a poem aloud is much more important than “analyzing” it, if there isn’t time for both. I think one of our goals as teachers of English is to have students love poetry. Poetry is “ a criticism of life”, and “ a heightening(提升) of life”. It is “an approach to the truth of feeling”, and it “can save your life”. It also deserves a place in the teaching of language and literature more central than it presently occupies. I am not saying that every English teacher must teach poetry. But those who do teach poetry must keep in mind a few things about its essential nature, about its sound as well as its sense, and they must make room in the classroom for hearing poetry as well as thinking about it. 21. To have a better understanding of a poem, one should________. A. discuss it with others B. analyze it by oneself C. copy it down in a notebook D. practise reading it aloud 22. According to the writer, one of the purposes of teaching English is to get students________. A. to understand life. B. to enjoy poetry. C. to become teachers. D. to become poets 23. What does the last sentence in the third paragraph imply? A. More importance should be attached to the teaching of poetry. B. Poetry is more important than any other subject. C. One cannot enjoy life fully without an understanding of poetry D. Poetry is the foundation of all language and literature courses B There have always been a lot of commonly believed but false ideas about being fat and doing exercise. Some people believe that they can’t help putting on weight as they get older, while others hold that if they stop exercising, their muscles will turn into fat. Here are some more myths: I’ll never lose weight --- I come from a fat family Wrong! While we can’t change the body type we are born with, we can’t blame our genes for making us fat. There’s plenty of evidence that fatness runs in families, and the main reason is that they share the same habits of eating too much and exercise too little. I am fat because I burn calories slowly Wrong! Fatness is not caused by a slow metabolism(新陈代谢). If fact, although fat people consume more energy that slim people, they also fail to realize how much they eat! Keeping a diary can help you work out your daily food intake more accurately. Exercise is boring Wrong! Anything will become boring if you do it repetitively. The key is to develop a balanced and varied program that’s fun as well as progressive. If you enjoy a Sunday walk, take a different route. If you do Yoga, try a tai chi class. If you like swimming, set a distance or time challenge. No pain, no gain. Wrong! Exercise is not meant to hurt. Indeed, pain is your body telling you something’s wrong, and continuing to exercise could lead to serious injury. You may experience mild discomfort as you begin to exercise regularly, but when your body adapts to the positive changes in your lifestyle and the aches should disappear relatively quickly. If you don’t, rest and seek medical advice. 24. What does the author think about being fat? A.It is the family genes that make people fat. B.People are fat because they consume too little energy. C.It is the consequence of people’s unbalanced lifestyle. D.A diary of exercise can prevent people from becoming fat. 25. According to the author, how can we make exercise more interesting? A.By taking varied exercise. B.By choosing simple exercise. C.By doing regular exercise. D.By sticking to outdoor exercise. 26. What is the author’s opinion about “No pain, no gain” in exercising? A.Exercise should be stopped if continuous pain is felt. B.Keeping fit is essentially a painful experience. C.Pain in exercise is a precondition for reaching your goal. D.Getting used to pain leads to positive changes in your body. 27. What is the purpose of the passage? A.To argue the importance of keeping fit. B.To prove some medical facts about being fat and doing exercise. C.To confirm what has long been believed about keeping fit. D.To inform readers of some misunderstandings about fatness and exercise. C In recent years some extreme weather events have arisen from global warming because of human activities, with studies indicating an increasing threat from extreme weather in the future. Scientists were certain that global warming is being caused mostly by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases and other human activities. Its effects include warming global temperature, rising sea levels and expansion of deserts in the subtropics(亚热带). Warming is expected to be greater over land than over the oceans and greatest in the Arctic, with the continuing loss of glaciers, permafrost and sea ice. Other likely changes include more frequent extreme weather events including heat waves, droughts, heavy rainfall with floods, heavy snowfall and species extinction due to great change of temperature. Bad effects on humans include the threat to food security from decreasing crop yields and the loss of populated(住人的) areas because of rising sea levels. Possible responses to global warming are reduction of emissions(排放), adaptation to its effects, building systems resilient to its effects, and possible future climate engineering. Most countries are parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change UNFCCC), whose objective is to prevent dangerous climate change. It has adopted a range of policies designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to assist in adaptation to global warming. It is agreed that future global warming should be limited to below 2.0 °C (3.6 °F) relative to the pre-industrial level. On 12 November 2015, NASA scientists reported that human-made carbon dioxide continues to increase above levels that have not been seen in hundreds of thousands of years: currently, about half of the carbon dioxide released from the burning of fossil fuels remains in the atmosphere and is not absorbed by vegetation and the oceans. 28. What does the underlined word “resilient” mean? A. be easily damaged  B. be able to recover easily C. can be bent easily  D. be difficult to change 29. Which of following is NOT mentioned as an effect of global warming? A. rising sea levels and expansion of deserts  B. more frequent extreme weather events C. species extinction D. increasing crop yields 30. Which of the following can be inferred from the last two paragraphs? A. It is likely for us to deal with global warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to its effects and climate engineering. B. There is no solution to too much carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. C. It is common that human-made carbon dioxide keeps on increasing greatly in the previous several centuries. D. Future global warming should be limited to below 3.6 °C. 阅读七选五 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Anyone who has ever tried to stop smoking knows how difficult it is to quit. There is no lack of information about how unhealthy smoking is for you- not to mention the unpleasant smell. So why would teens ever begin to smoke? 31 Research shows that the majority of smokers lit up their first cigarette in their early or mid-teens, precisely at a time when children are beginning to establish their own identity apart from their parents. Smoking can be an act of rebellion(反抗) against parents or authority figures, as well as a way to fit in with others and feel accepted. Here are some things that parents can do to help a child stay smoke-free. Start talking to your teen about how bad smoking is for him early, well before his teens. Keep talking, too. 32 33 For example, smoking makes your hair and clothing smell bad, stains the teeth, and reduces your lung power to play sports. 34 Talk about the addictive power of smoking and tell him while those few cigarettes are his choice, the addiction that occurs shortly afterwards makes him powerless to decide whether or not he wants to light up. Work on self-esteem(自尊) and self-confident with your teen. Much of the attraction of smoking is to gain acceptance. 35 A. Young teens live in the moment, too. B. Play on your child’s desire to make his own choices. C. The answer lies in the develop-mental stage of your teens. D. Give your child the facts, but focus on the things he can relate to. E. Help your teen to feel good about himself without having to smoke. F. One discussion will not be enough to help your child not to smoke. G. They won’t be aware of how powerful addictive smoking is in a very short time. 第三部分: 完形填空 (共20小题 , 每小题1. 5分, 满分30分) 阅读下面短文 , 掌握其大意 , 然后从每题所给的 A , B , C , D四个选项中选出最佳答案 . It is important for us to live a low-carbon life to protect the environment, not only for ourselves but also for our future generations. Low-carbon living saves more energy. Thus it is environmentally-friendly. First, it is a good idea for us to go to school on foot or by bike as often as possible, which contributes to a cleaner environment. Second, remember to turn off the lights and other electrical appliances before leaving the room. Third, we’d better sort out the rubbish so as to recycle some, which surely benefits us a great deal. Fourth, saving paper also matters much. It’s time that we should live a low-carbon life and everyone’s effort counts. Undoubtedly, this way of life is more economical, healthier and happier. I want to put it in the front hallway. W: I like it, but I think it might look better in the kitchen or the living room. Text 2 W: Do you recycle, Aron? M: Yeah, I do. I recycle everything! I recycle glass, paper, and plastic. How about you? W: I only recycle glass. Text 3 W: What is your favorite type of movie? Personally, I like dramas. M: I prefer comedies, but sometimes I like action films. I used to think romance films were terrible, but I don’t mind so much anymore. Text 4 M: I’m going shopping and then to the movies on Saturday. Would you like to come? W: No, thanks. I’m going to the beach. It’s supposed to be hot, so I don’t want to be indoors. Text 5 M: I went to an eye doctor yesterday, and he told me that I’m colorblind. W: What does that mean? M: I can’t tell the differences between colors. It’s even worse from far away. Black and white is fine, though. Text 6 W: How long did it take you to write your novel? M: Around three years. W: Wow, that’s a long time! Where do you usually write? M: I write in cafés a lot. Sometimes I write at home, or in libraries. W: Do you have a favorite spot? M: Cafés are always nice because I can order coffee, and I like being around people. Writing from home gets lonely sometimes, but my preference mostly depends on my mood. Text 7 M: I had the worst day today! W: Why, what happened? M: I was late for school because I got into a car accident. It wasn’t even my fault. Then I spilled soup all over my foot at lunch and everyone laughed at me. No one picked me to be on their team at soccer practice after school. Then on my way home, I almost hit a dog that was in the road. W: Wow, that does sound horrible. I made your favorite meal for dinner tonight. Maybe that will cheer you up. M: Oh, thank you! Steak and French fries are exactly what I wanted! Let’s watch the basketball game after the meal. Text 8 W: Where do you see yourself in ten years? M: In ten years? I will have graduated college by then, and hopefully, I’ll be living in a big city, maybe New York. I want to be a doctor so I can help people. What about you? W: I’ve always wanted to live in Italy, so I definitely see myself there. Maybe Rome! Or Venice. Florence seems nice, too. M: What will your job be? W: I think I’d like to be a pilot and fly people around the world. M: That sounds fun. I thought you always wanted to be a lawyer, though. W: I used to, but that was last year. Now, I want to learn how to fly a plane. M: Do you think we’ll still be friends in ten years? W: Of course! I’ll visit you in New York and you can visit me in Rome! Text 9 M: Hi, Sara. W: Hey, Jimmy. What’s up? I never thought you’d be home on a Saturday night! M: I’m just calling to tell you that I won’t be able to make it to your party tomorrow. My dog died today. W: Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that! What happened? M: I’m not exactly sure. I came home from work tonight and she wasn’t moving. I took her to the hospital and they said her heart had stopped. W: That’s awful. Don’t worry about coming to the party. I completely understand. M: Thanks. She was 15 years old, so at least she had a good, long life. I think she simply died of old age. I just need a few days to myself, but I should be feeling back to normal pretty soon. W: Of course. If there’s anything you need, just give me a call. I can make you some food, or come spend some time with you if you want me to. M: Thanks. You’re a good friend. Have fun at the party. I’ll talk to you soon. Text 10 W: Hello, this is Charlotte Franklin calling from Dr. Carrie Smith’s office. I have a message for Hillary Brown. I’m calling to inform you that Dr. Smith has reviewed your tests, and it looks like you are allergic to the sun. This may be a surprise to you, but it is more common than you might think. Please call us to make an appointment to speak directly with Dr. Smith. In the meantime, try and stay out of the sun as much as possible. If you do go out, wear clothing that will block out as much sun as possible. And definitely put on sun cream. Try not to do many outdoor activities, and if you are driving, please wear sunglasses. Regular pain medicine is often enough to treat a bad sunburn for most of us. But if you get one, please go straight to the emergency room for treatment. This is not a joke. Don’t forget to drink a lot of water. Please call us as soon as possible to make an appointment. Thank you. 1
