In this unit, Students learn to talk about personal traits and compare people. Section (2a-Grammar Focus) mainly improves the students’ listening and speaking skills by using the target languages.
Students learn to use the comparative degrees of the adjectives to describe how different the people are.
?.Analysis of the students Students learned many adjectives to describe people in Grade 7. They always get along with each other at school and they are interested in talking about other people. Besides, students have learned the comparative degrees of adjectives in the first period from 1a—1c, so they will be interested in going on studying in this lesson.
?. Teaching Aims and Demands 1. Knowledge Objects Students use the comparative degrees of adjectives by listening and speaking. (1) Key Vocabulary: athletic, more athletic, serious, more serious. (2)Target Language: Tina is more athletic than Tara. Tara is more outgoing than Tina. Is she / he funnier than you?

?. Teaching procedures Step 1 Warming up Students chant with the video to review the comparative degrees of the adjectives in Period 1.
Step 2 Lead in Greet the students and help them describe what the teacher looks like, then compare the teacher with one student and ask questions like this: Are you taller than me? Is my hair longer than your hair? Then let some other students go on talking about the differences with the comparative degrees of the adjectives. Write down the words on the blackboard. Step 3 Presentation Show the photo of Guo Degang and ask the students: Who is he? Is he thin ? After they say the word heavy, show the photo of an actor who is even heavier and help the students say heavier. Practice talking about the two pictures. Show another picture that there is a man exercising. Presentate the new word athletic and read it. To teach the students the comparative degrees of athletic, the teacher shows a player who is taking part in a competition. After that, Practise the new words in different ways. Show the third pair of pictures, explain the pictures and ask the students how they are different, teach serious and more serious. Help the students practice the new words and sentences by using the comparative degrees. Step 3 Pair work Students watch a piece of video. When it stops, ask the students some questions about the sheep like: Is the Pretty Sheep beautiful? Is the Slow Sheep serious? What do you think of these sheep? Help the students choose the adjectives and describe the sheep in the picture above. Divide the sheep into four pairs, give them an example and let the students work in pairs to talk about how the sheep are different. Then report by using the words that are given on the screen. Step 4 A game Students look at the apple tree . There are many apples on it and there is an adjective on each apple. Say to the class: Let’s pick the apple with the sheep together! Can you put
the apples in the right baskets? Read the key words on the blackboard and the have an apple –picking game . Students put the apples in the right baskets as quickly as they can. Summarize the rules of change the adjectives into comparative degrees
Step 5 Listening Before listening, help the students look at the picture in 2b to know the names the two girls, Tina and Tara. Write down their names on the blackboard, put the cards with the answers on the blackboard and ask two students to get ready to put the right cards under each girl. The other students should write down the words quickly. Play the recording the first time and ask a question: Who is funnier, Tina or Tara? Play it again and check the answers, then ask some students to make sentences with the words and read.
Step 6 Talking Ask some pairs of students to stand up and help the students compare their personal traits.
Step7 A guessing game Students work in groups of five to guess who their friends are. Explain that they can use the example sentences on the screen. Then ask two or three students to go to the front and play the guessing game. Give the students who can guess the right names gifts. Step 8 Exercise Finish the two kinds of exercises and check the answers.
Step 9 Writing Students write a short passage about the same and different things between their parents. Before that, give them a few example sentences. Let the students who have finished it quickly to read their passages.
Step 10 A song This class ends up with an English song called My Pets. Ask the students to listen to the song to relax themselves
