This is the story of how the baseball and the golf ball were created. Once there were two balls that were very proud and competitive. One ball's name was Scratch. The other ball's name was Fist. They each thought they were better than all the other balls. A tournament was coming up. It was the Long Distance Flying Tournament. The ball that traveled the farthest through the air would win money and a trophy. All of the balls started practicing for the tournament. Scratch and Fist also started practicing. The two balls happened to meet during practice. They laughed at each other. "You should be practicing hard,because you have no skills." "What? I've got no skills? I'm ten times better than you can ever be." "Ha! Ha! See you at the tournament. Get out of my way. I want to practice." Then,Scratch pushed Fist. Fist became angry. "Uh! You're pushing me?" Fist hit Scratch. The part that Fist hit sunk in. Scratch got really angry. So, he scratched Fist with his long fingernails. Fist was hurt. They both got angrier. They fought and fought. Finally, they became exhausted and fell to the ground. Scratch was all lumpy. He had dimples all over his body. Fist had long scratches around his body. The tournament was starting, soon. The two balls regretted the fight. Now, they may not be able to compete in the tournament, because they failed to get along with each other. Despite their failure, Scratch still wanted to participate in the tournament. He went to Fist and said, "I'm sorry we fought Why don't we start practicing, again?" "Yeah,I'm sorry, too. Let's help each other practice." "Okay. I'll throw you." Scratch clipped off his nails and threw Fist through the air. Fist put on a pair of gloves. He used an L-shaped stick to hit Scratch through the air. They practiced very hard. Why could they go so far through the air? They were both injured, but they went further than ever before. They were both very happy. "Thank you, Scratch. You helped me fly farther than ever." "You helped me, too. We can both fly a longer distance, now. This is great!" They were both pleased. It was the day of the tournament. The two balls were confident. They knew that they could fly a long way,because they did it during practice. They flew exactly the same distance! People saw how far the two balls flew. They began using Scratch as a golf ball and Fist as a baseball. Scratch thought about Fist every time he flew through the air. And Fist thought about Scratch whenever he flew a long way, too. The two balls were happy when they flew along distance. People cheered as they flew through the air!
