Connie Boyd - The Beauty of Magic The following is a description of various illusion routines: ROUTINES-to OPEN SHOW Illusion Routine Description As broadcast on the “World Magic Awards,” Connie Boyd-Best Cabaret Magician 1A. Man/Doves The Ultimate Illusion! TIME: 2:49 Min A classically dressed male magician confidently and effortlessly produces doves from thin air or thin silks. Mid Performance he removes his costume, facial hair and wig to reveal he is a SHE. Connie Boyd has executed the ultimate illusion and added an original twist to a classic routine. Placing the silk, wig, etc. into a small box Connie vanishes the masculine items replacing them with a pair of high-heeled pumps (matching her outfit of course!) Finally Connie covers the birdcage containing the doves she produced seconds before. Tossing the cloth into the air, the doves and cage have instantly disappeared mid-air! Show “A” . As broadcast on the “World Magic Awards,” Connie Boyd-Best Cabaret Magician 1B. Card Opening The show begins, lights fade up with the music to present two elegantly costumed females Man/Doves posing in front of two “flats” painted as oversized playing cards. Seductively they maneuver TIME: 3:20 Min. the cards about the stage, when the cards cross BOYD the classically attired magician appears instantly. Confidently and effortlessly BOYD produces doves from thin air or thin silks assisted by his beautiful assistants. Mid Performance the females remove BOYD’S costume, he removes his facial hair and wig to reveal he is a SHE. Connie Boyd has executed the ultimate illusion and added an original twist to a classic routine. The female assistants stand in front of the cards and rotate them 180 degrees. Two handsome male assistants have now replaced the beautiful women and assist Connie Boyd with prop removal. The cards now reveal Connie Boyd’s logo! Placing the silk, wig, etc. into a small box Connie vanishes the masculine items replacing them with a pair of high-heeled pumps (matching her outfit of course!) Finally Connie covers the birdcage containing the doves she produced seconds before. Tossing the cloth into the air, the doves and cage have instantly disappeared mid-air! As broadcast on the “World Magic Awards,” 2. Guitar Connie Boyd-Best Cabaret Magician Suspension TIME: Min. Usually the opening of the show this routine starts with broadcast clips demonstrating Connie Boyd’s international success, and builds with exciting dance choreography to introduce and support her entrance, The Guitar Suspension is a physical, dramatic, contemporary illusion, utilizing Connie’s strength and agility. In this original routine Connie actually removes the hoop supporting her legs with the heel of her shoe while suspended from the guitar, effortlessly performing impossible acrobatic Show “B” choreography. Visually stimulating this illusion continually surprises and astounds as Connie spins 360 degrees on top of the guitar. A large percentage of the illusion is performed by Connie solo on stage, however, the choreography between Connie and her assistants at the beginning and end of the number are essential to establishing her status in the show. Shadow Box Connie Boyd- Prix du Public TIME: 2:25 Min. This spectacular grand illusion begins center stage, empty, it’s lush purple interior clearly in view. On cue the central light illuminates the illusion from within and the front cover mystically lowers. Immediately a shadow appears from the top corner of the illusion revealing a female form. As a voice over introduces Connie Boyd as the front cover magically raises to reveal her appearance. Exiting the illusion at Connie’s command the central light illuminates the prop from within and the front cover lowers magically. Incredibly shadows emerge to reveal a profile and at Connie’s command the front cover opens to reveal a beautiful woman literally appearing from Show “A” thin air. Twice more, at Connie’s direction, the light, the cover and shadows produce cast members individually. This illusion impossibly produces Connie and a cast of two men and one woman or two women and one man. A show-stopping illusion, the Shadow Box is mind-boggling, intense and exciting. This is an illusion people talk about after the show. ROUTINES-requiring special installation, staging, curtains &/or lighting Illusion Routine Description The atmosphere changes into a dressing room scene. 1. Hair Scarf TIME: 2:25 Min. Wearing a sheer robe and freshening up her make-up at a vanity Connie secures a feathered Hair Scarf to her hair. Suddenly without warning the Hair Scarf jumps to life from her head to the floor. A charming, lighthearted routine ensues. Highlights include the Hair Scarf dancing and frolicking about the stage at Connie’s command, leaping through a silver hoop into a glass jar, dancing inside the corked jar and finally escaping back to Connie’s head. Show “A” Connie borrows a tie from an audience member. As she dances with the tie she knots the 2. Dancing Tie top. Suddenly the tie comes to life! Animated it leaps, dances and salsa’s to the upbeat TIME: Min. Latin music. Show “B” Delightfully frolicking about the stage the dancing tie swings on a hoop, leaps into a glass pyramid and dances inside the corked jar, finally escaping back to Connie at her command. As Connie returns the tie back to his astonished owner she confirms, “this tie is definitely magical!” This is a variation on the “Floating and Flying” routine. It is presented as an alternative 3a. Floating Ball when an engagement does not allow the more complicated routine to be performed. Routine SOLO TIME:3.35Min The costuming, music and style are the same ethereal, sensual nature as the original presentation however the magic method is different and the routine is a more classical floating ball and zombie illusion and much easier to stage. Show “B” As broadcast on Masters of Illusion and Grand Prix Magiques du Monte Carlo 3b. Floating and Flying TIME: 3.35 Floating and Flying is a signature illusion. World renowned for its ethereal, sensuality and impossible magic the illusion is simplistic in nature. Wearing a basic, high cut leotard Connie gracefully commands a silver ball to float as directed. The routine climaxes with Connie flying up to the floating silver ball. Connie and the ball float and fly together, hovering incredibly in thin air. Visually stunning this routine is sensually effective and dramatic combining illusion and theater to present a surreal fantasy. Cloth Vanish Connie Boyd- Prix du Public TIME: 2:36 Min. A poignant, romantic, adagio number featuring dance, passion and incredible magic. A dramatic memory triggers the magic effects presented in this number. Connie removes a man’s shirt from a coat rack and sits on an upholstered chair contemplating the past. As she stands she tosses the upholstery fabric aside. The chair has vanished or rather transformed into a handsome man. Show “A” The couple embrace moving intimately together. Sensuously they dance as one. The man removes his shirt, which Connie’s wearing, and puts it on. Lifting Connie onto a table, they continue to dance. Connie steps off the table, she raises a cloth to cover the man standing on the table instantly swirling it to the floor. The man has vanished into thin air! -The coat rack where the shirt originally hung is illuminated to reveal the man’s shirt has re- appeared, back to it’s original position as the memory and music fades... This, finale number, is a dramatic, escape with an electrifying element of danger and 5. Matrix Straight suspense. Under the watchful eye of a volunteer from the audience, Connie is bound into a Jacket Escape Straight Jacket. Suspended by her feet upside-down in the air over a bed of nails with less TIME: than sixty seconds to escape Connie narrowly escapes death as the chain is cut with a grinder! Show “B” STAGE ILLUSION ROUTINES Illusion Routine Description The twister illusion, bends or should we say “TWISTS” the rules. Very energetic, visual and 1. Twister upbeat the routine is quirky and fun. TIME: 3:02 Min Connie places herself in a bizarre illusion. Her legs and face are visible to the audience, her body is in a box. Suddenly she twists her head 360 degrees, impossibly 3-4 times! The doors covering her body magically open to reveal Connie’s body, twisted like a pretzel. The doors close and Connie twists her head back only to exit the prop in one piece. This illusion is comedic, bizarre and must be seen to be believed! The original presentation and staging create an audience pleasing piece. Show “A” An excellent finale/escape that adds a new dynamic dimension to a classic routine. 2. STOMPTRUNK TIME: 1:30 min The number begins with a high energy dance routine integrating athletic movement and elaborate rhythms. During this number the audience is encouraged to participate by clapping. Using musical rhythms Connie, a selected volunteer and the cast establish the metal and glass trunk on stage is solid. Connie is hand-cuffed, secured in a fabric sack inside the trunk. The audience can clearly Show A see Connie’s form trapped in the sack through the glass. Two or three assistants stand on top of the trunk holding a cloth. Instantly in the quick toss of a cloth ALL assistants vanish to reveal Connie standing in their spot. Connie immediately drops the cloth to reveal, impossibly, all the assistants have been transposed inside the locked box. The Magic of Connie Boyd – TheBeautyofMagic@aol.com page #3 A clever twist on a classic routine utilizing Connie’s theater and acting abilities to the fullest. 3. Torn & Restored Photo After receiving a disappointing telephone call Connie furiously rips her boyfriend’s photo into TIME: 2:17 Min. tiny pieces, transforming the photo into a huge paper snowstorm. At the height of the paper storm the telephone rings and it is apparent a misunderstanding has occurred and all is forgiven. Desperately Connie looks to magic to enable her to restore her boyfriend’s portrait photo to its original condition. As broadcast on Grand Prix Magiques de Monte Carlo -Connie Boyd- Prix du Public 4. O.L.E.P. Orange, Lemon, Egg, Dove, is a classic magic number that’s a very clever, intricate piece of TIME: 3:00 Min. stage magic requiring close-up skill and precision. Connie effortlessly produces a white dove from a silk flower on her jacket and places him in his cage. She then presents fruit on a table namely, an Orange, Lemon and an Egg. Returning to the Dove she removes him from the cage, in a toss of her hand the dove flies into the air, transforming into a silk. At the fruit table she cups the Egg into her hand, dramatically unfolding her fingers to reveal the egg has disappeared. The Lemon is covered with a silk, only to vanish in a toss of the cloth. Finally only the ORANGE remains. Peeling the Orange with a knife, the Lemon is revealed inside it. Peeling the Lemon, the Egg is revealed to be inside it. Carrying the Egg to the cage, Connie cracks it open at the door and the dove, miraculously re-appears within the cage. STAGE ILLUSION ROUTINES Illusion Routine Description As broadcast on Grand Prix Magiques de Monte Carlo 5. Juke Box Connie Boyd- Prix du Public TIME: 4:30 Min. The JukeBox routine is a up-beat, puzzle illusion with a retro feel. Full of energy, jive and fun Connie dances swing style with her handsome assistant. When he refuses to enter an illusion resembling a jukebox Connie manhandles him into the prop. His hand is visible at all times. Impossibly she thrusts large tubes, a blade and zigzags the illusion all the while he is inside. Visually this illusion is impossible, Show “B” When, incredibly, the male assistant exits the prop at the end of the number the audience responds enthusiastically to the impossible puzzle they have just witnessed. This is an encore effect to the Floating Ball, lifting the ethereal energy of the previous 6. Wrap Around illusion with pulsating music and lighting. TIME: 1:15 Min. Taking one corner of a large cloth Connie wraps up into it, the silver ball she has just used is visible at all times. When the cloth is unwrapped Connie has transformed into her male assistant. A whistle is loudly heard; Connie re-appears - this time transposing into the middle of the audience. Show “B” As broadcast on Grand Prix Magiques de Monte Carlo 7 Silk Fountain/Duck Connie Boyd- Prix du Public TIME: 1:00 Min. A mysterious man stands stage right, wearing a dark trench coat and a fedora. Connie provocatively approaches and circles the stranger. Slowly she removes a silk from the man’s pocket. Flirtatiously she beckons him to follow her. Unbelievably the single silk multiplies into a fountain of dozens of brightly colored silks, only to reveal a large, white DUCK. The Magic of Connie Boyd – TheBeautyofMagic@aol.com page #4 AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION ROUTINES Illusion Routine Description As broadcast on Grand Prix Magiques de Monte Carlo 1. Make a Man Connie Boyd- Prix du Public TIME: 3:00 Min. AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION PIECE Usually follows CLOTH VANISH (vanished man re-appears.) Make a Man is a fun, vivacious comedic illusion utilizing members of the audience. -Connie flirtatiously asks various members of the audience for clothing such as a jacket, a tie Show “A” and a hat. -She returns to the stage with the items and places them in a box, the items are clearly seen through the front screen. When the lid is removed and the sides drop a man has miraculously appeared wearing the jacket, tie & hat. -As Connie and the assistant bow grandly together they realize she has forgotten pants. Impishly Connie says, “I forgot pants” as the embarrassed assistant frantically exits the stage. AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION PIECE 2. Sword through This is a lighthearted, comical, campy audience participation number with S&M overtones. Neck -A volunteer from the audience is strapped and handcuffed into a bondage style chair. TIME: 5:30 Min. -A deadly looking sword is presented on stage. Connie demonstrates it is indeed real and dangerous. Show “B” -Nervously, Connie penetrates the audience member’s neck with the sword. The routine takes a turn towards the bizarre as Connie photographs and spins the impaled audience member. Finally, the sword is removed (with just a little blood!) and the volunteer returned to his seat. This routine has many comical moments and ads variety and humor to the show. By this point the audience has realized nothing is, as it seems in this magic production. This 3. Card Rise proves to be true with Connie’s card trick, a very funny, visual audience participation piece TIME: 3-5 Minutes using credit cards instead of playing cards. (Estimated) Shows “A & B” After a volunteer from the audience selects a credit card from a deck Connie explains she will predict his card using a very sophisticated technique. Dramatically a hand-held eggbeater is revealed. The man is asked to place the handle on his head, rotate the beaters and transmit his thoughts to Connie as she draws his card on an art pad. Much to her surprise she is not successful and has drawn the wrong card. She tells the man HE needs stronger energy and asks for help. Her assistant brings out a bigger electric mixer! Connie draws a deck of cards behind the card she has chosen in error, miraculously, magically the credit card the audience member selected rises from her drawn deck! This routine is short, sweet and works well with children. Seated on stools in the audience or 4. Kiss Card Trick at the end of the stage Connie asks the volunteer to select a card. TIME: 1-1 ? Min. Connie blows a kiss to the volunteer’s card and when he turns the card over a large lipstick imprint is on the back of his selected card. The Magic of Connie Boyd – TheBeautyofMagic@aol.com page #5 AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION ROUTINES Illusion Routine Description An impossible prediction in the middle of the public. Connie randomly selects a volunteer 5. ROOM from the audience. Her hotel key is tied to a ribbon that she places around the volunteer’s PREDICTIONneck. With the assistance of a stuffed toy tossed into the audience, audience members predict the three numbers of her hotel room. The amazing finale has Connie removing the key from the volunteer’s neck to confirm the audience has indeed predicted the correct numbers!! The Sack Escape is a comedic, humorous routine involving an audience member. The 6. Sack Escape dialogue for the routine is slapstick and vaudevillian, the routine is filled with sexual TIME: 4-5 Minutes innuendoes and is a lot of fun. (Estimated) Connie is secured inside a sack wearing the volunteer’s jacket. (The volunteer inspected the sack earlier to establish its credibility.) The volunteer holds the top of the tied sack at all times. A cloth is raised between the sack and the audience, in three counts Connie escapes from the sack. The volunteer’s jacket remains inside the secured sack. This routine is a zany, lighthearted audience pleaser. Jerry Wee Lee This number is a solo spot and a visually funny number in the show. An exceptional Lewis Show “B” dancer impersonates Jerry Lee Lewis’s presentation of his international hit “Great TIME: 55 Min Balls of Fire” in miniature form. This is a solid audience “pleaser” and sets the stage and atmosphere for the Juke Box illusion. 1B. „60?s Medley A fun, playful, energetic dance number used to present the Juke Box Illusion when a TIME: 1:32 Min. large cast is engaged. Show “A” This dance routine utilizes hot, Latin movement and rhythms to feature the amazing abilities 2. Latin Dance of the talented cast. The intricate choreography sets the pace and segues perfectly into the TIME: 1:32 Min. Twister Illusion and allows for technical set and costume changes. Show “A” Influenced by the Broadway hit musical Stomp. The cast rhythmically and energetically 6A. Stomp Trunk present a routine that establishes the trunk is solid and establishes the tone of the final TIME: 1:13 Min illusion. This is an electric, show stopping number. This routine sets up the Stomp Illusion. A high energy, exciting opening dance number with up-beat pulsating music and dynamic 5. Guitar Levitation choreography setting the scene for the Guitar Levitation. Opening TIME: 1:32 Min. Show “B” The Magic of Connie Boyd – TheBeautyofMagic@aol.com page #7 DANCE/PRODUCTION ROUTINES Illusion Routine Description Gorgeous costuming complimenting the beautiful dancers presented in an elegant setting for Finale the finale bows. Dramatic music and contemporary cutting-edge choreography set the scene for the Matrix Finale Straight Jacket Escape allowing for set-up and execution of the escape. A duet establishing the magic pieces for the OLEP routine. This number is sexy and fun and OLEP Set-up allows Connie to make a costume change. A comedic dance routine demonstrating the “Mission Impossible” skills an assistant requires 22. THE AUDITION to “appear” in the magic show.
