1. Which is more important for a college student: specialized knowledge or a wide range of learning?
A1: we think the specialized knowledge is more important than a wide range of learning..It is universally acknowledged that our world is developing rapidly, and an unique skill for a person is necessary. With a well specialized knowledge in a certain field, there is an army of graduates who have found a pleasant job, go t promoted, or initiated one’s own career successfully. Considering millions of undergraduates benefiting tremendously(巨大的) from specialized university studies ,we hold strongly the point that the specialized knowledge is far more important than a wide range of learning !
B1:First, I admit that your statement to the issue is very wonderful. However ,never can we ignore the fact that obtaining(得到) all sorts of knowledge on a wide range of subjects guarantees one’s job opportunit ies in such a competitive world, and many large corporations prefer a person with a wide range of knowledge. The wider the range of knowledge you have, the more angles you can stand in to view the world , and surely the better prospective you will have. So we’re convinced that being equipped with a wide range is far more important than specialized knowledge !
A2:well ! Wonderful , however , to your statement we just have to disapprove .as we all know ,a decent salary and a high-ranking position wouldn’t be offered to one who lack proficiency on the subject which requires extremely specialized skills related to the subject! So I want to ask you , if you were The President of a company, you would do that ?
B2: well !at first , I won’t ! but if I have a company ,everytime I make a decision ,I will take the priority of Mighty men! Excuse me , don’t you want to use a Mighty man ?
A1: if it’s available ,I will .in fact ,no one can learn well in every field which he learns . you have a wide range of knowledge .do you ?
B1 : no , I don’t .but If I can ,that would be good !in my opinion ,you just misunderstand our our views . we mean a wide range is much more important than the specialized one ,and we haven’t denied the significance of specialized knowledge .so excuse me .each other debate do you think you merely master a specialized knowledge ?
A2; probably yes , that’s my major . you are the same as us .as you said ,you haven’t denied the importance of specialized knowledge . we have reasons to doubt whether you have suspicion to support our opinions . For example , bill gates started his Microsoft relying on specialized knowledge in computer programming .
A2:Well, we are firmly convinced that the fact is not as what you’ve just
confessed. Whether we can well adapt to the world is not depend on how wide the range of knowledge you’ve aquired, but the degree of the knowledge you’ve handled. students who specialize in one field can be more professional than those who receive comprehensive education when they graduate and those well-trained "experts" might be more welcomed by the society. So it’s “it’s better to master one than engage ten”.Thank you!
B2: We thought we should debate according to the fact. The main reason why I put forward the idea is that taking classes in different subjects can guarantee students absorbing basic knowledge. A good example on this point is Harvard University, which divides the courses into seven areas, through this means, ensures that each student has certain basic knowledge in an aspect, which will be a powerful strength while competing with others. In this case, the importance of a wide range of knowledge is self-evident. Thank you!
