Letters and Blogs Letters and Blogs Updated: 2008-04-04 07:22 Not a true preacher of Buddhism I am an Australian who often travels to China. My best friend is a Chinese. I think Chinese people are honest, hard working and decent people. I am sickened and angry by Western media reports. Most Westerners understand that the media only reports sensational news - whether true or false, as this is what sells. Not all Westerners believe what they read but some are gullible, and therefore China's image suffers. The only way for foreigners to understand the real China is to visit the beautiful country and meet the people themselves. I know, as I had my own misconceptions of what China was like from reading Western media reports before my first visit. I am now always explaining to friends, family and strangers what China is really like so that they can get rid of their misconceptions. I feel both hurt and embarrassed that the Western media still treats China this way. Rick from Australia on China Daily website The Dalai Lama is not a true preacher of Buddhism nor is he a defender of Tibet's cultural values. Instead, I think he has been engulfed in the swamp of international politics. He is being supported by special interest groups who have absolutely no interest in Buddhism or in the cultural values of Tibet. There are plenty of examples to prove this and here are some. First, the groups that have been supporting the Dalai Lama are mostly those who have been destroying their own values. It is extremely laughable that these groups seek out the Dalai Lama for new spiritual values. In addition, they cry for unity in the "Tibet region" while working hard to separate Tibet from the country. Second, the deceitfulness of the Dalai Lama's friends, like the Western media. It is travesty to call their biased reports honest journalism. Third, the Chinese government inculcates more moral values than any of the Dalai Lama's political and Hollywood friends. His friends have no interest in spiritual education as it is bad for their business. Fourth, the Dalai Lama and his friends are full of contradictions. Some of them happily engage in riots. I hope the Dalai Lama realizes the Chinese central government can and will protect Tibet and its values better than his friends.
